There are a huge number of factors that influence the spread of this disease, so one has to be very careful when 'proving' something with a few examples. For instance- "Blue" vs. "Red" states. Mask mandates are not the only difference between those states. Nor is political association. Virus variants can change the course of the disease, as can many factors that affect people's behavior- culture, type of economy etc.

Lockdowns are very harmful to our society and do very little to mitigate the damage being caused by the virus. Old people still die with or without masks and with or without lockdowns. But millions of healthy Americans are being destroyed by the unwise shutdowns arising from their irrational fears of the virus and accompanying bad ideas about how to put a stop to its spread.

In the UK we recognise a Covid death if there has been a positive diagnosis within 28 days ... @Arthur Brain .... have I got that right?
Now that is our rough guide. But the spikes that I am talking about are all about Covid, Jefferson. They most certainly are.
Where our hospital admissions and deaths per day fall away, it is for sure that Covid sickness has reduced among us.
But our medics are not cheering.... they are very much on edge, because this virus mutates, and if it can develop resistance to vaccines then we will be right back in serious trouble.
We are happy that the virus is currently under control, but there is underlying nervousness, because of variants. Not to mention that this very likely will happen again, with a different virus. It's really a question of when, not if.
