That's what family and church are for (Ex 20:15). :dizzy:

Leviticus 23:22

"'When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. I am the LORD your God.'"

It is not the role of government to care for you or your family (Ex 20:15). :dizzy: That is your husband's job (Duties of, toward wife: love (Eph. 5:25–33), live with for life (Matt. 19:3–9), be faithful to (Mal. 2:14, 15), be satisfied with (Prov. 5:18, 19),... honor (1 Pet 3:7), confer with (Gen. 31:4–16), provide for (1 Tim 5:8)... If he's dead or an infidel, :reals: the church may help you.

First of all, I didn't write the opening post.

You posted it, under your own username without attribution or caveat. And you expect people to assume it represents someone else's thoughts that you don't fully endorse?

Secondly, I couldn't care less what language is printed on a particular product. What I care about is immigrants coming to this country LEGALLY and because they want to be members of this society rather than changing it into the one they left.

You realize, don't you, that at many points in its history, this country has annexed large populations of native Spanish-speakers. Right?

You're a fool.

Hey, I'm just trying to be sensitive to your delicate feelings. Be brave. It'll heal.

It isn't about pressing buttons. It's about preserving the culture that made these people want to come here in the first place.

What exactly do you think is being lost from that culture?

I hate you.

Welcome to my ignore list.

Good-bye.

Ah, well, that is the dignified thing to do.

The author of this piece is focusing first on the general and then narrows it to the immigrant.

pretty sure we accept immigrants from europe

(checks on google)

yep, we sure do

we accept immigrants from europe

.... both legal and illegal immigrants are overwhelmingly non-white and non-European.

well, no

so you're saying we should round up all the slackers at the welfare office and put them to work gleaning the edges of the fields?

If it was good enough for Ruth, it's good enough for her (Ru 2:23). :thumb: Now, she'll want an Obama: phone, TV, cable, internet, home and car (2 Thess 3:10).

This is one thing that stands out about Trump I am pleasantly surprised at him being even more candid and not picking people for their political clout, but ability to do the job with competence. This is why the left hates him. This is why that commie Rusha is hiding since Trump one without a word to say. The child killing supporter than she is.

Your candidate hasn't taken down the bird feeder Clete, he just moved it to Indiana for now.

Sarah Palin: Trump's Carrier deal is 'crony capitalism'

"Palin described such government intervention as a “hallmark of corruption” and “socialism,” and then compared it to policies of the Obama administration, which she regularly rails against. "

Palin is just upset that she has no position in Trump's new administration. Why are you such a bottom feeder?

are you saying that no poor people are lazy? :freak:
Do you assume NO rich people are lazy? There are lazy people in every social class, the poor are likely less lazy on average than the others.

The principle of the scripture I posted is a mandate to give food to the poor, or allow them to take the leftovers from the rich. How is that not analogous to taxation and redistribution?

now that's an interesting claim

anything to back it up?

the hardest working people I've ever worked with were MD/PhD's for whom I did research - they never stopped

and they sure weren't poor :chuckle:

no, it is a mandate to leave gleanings for the poor to earn on their own

earning something on your own is very different from having it handed to you

The problem is NOT that we shouldn't give to the poor (if they are working, then we can, but it is not required; if they are not, then we should not because a person who does not work should not eat, the reasoning behind that verse is that God knows that hunger is quite a motivator), it's that the Bible does not authorize the government, or any institution for that matter, to feed the poor on our behalf. For example, the Bible says that if a woman is widowed but under a certain age (the age given was 60 years old, which was very old at the time the passage was written) then the church SHOULD NOT support her, it should be her family that supports her. By having the government support her (or even the church), it tells the family that they don't have to support her, because the government can be expected to take care of her. It's like the lunch system in schools. The government is paying for the childrens' lunch? Why should I, the child's mother, prepare lunch, when it's free at the school, so the kid becomes malnourished because he's not getting the care his mother would be able to give him if she were the one making the lunch for him. She gives up responsibility for her child because she foolishly expects the government to be able to take care of her child. We could even take a step back from that and examine the effects of having a government run school system.

The problem here is that the government is currently overstepping it's God-given responsibilities, of which there are ONLY two: criminal justice/national defence and infrastructure. Anything else and the government starts to become inefficient, and can no longer fulfill it's proper roles, and that leads to am even greater decay in society.

Yep. :thumb:

However, you apparently think this contradicts the idea that such a role is the right of an individual or family.

Turning it into a government regulation — inherently backed by the threat of force — destroys the entire concept of goodwill toward your neighbor.

I did find a study broken down based on race. It seems hispanics and blacks work harder than their white counterparts to maintain the same standard of living.

True, but there are plenty of rich people with inherited wealth that do very little. A poor person can't get away with that for the most part. Also did you notice the adjunct professors in the graph I linked? I know of a few professors that work at wal-mart to make ends meet, so a PhD is not necessarily a ticket to wealth. It certainly hasn't worked that way for me.

It was handed to them. Yes, it is work to actually harvest the grain, but they did not till the ground or purchase or sow the grain. It's about as much of a handout as could be expected at the time.

Though later, the Roman government had free and reduced price wheat for the poor, paid for by taxes on the rich. Sound familiar? And Paul said to pay taxes to said government.

You do know that manual labor is not necessarily the hardest work AlateOne?

The hardest work is done by those who endure the most mental stress and have to use a larger portion of their thinking faculties on the job.

Then there is the work of taking huge risks based on thoughtful consideration of all factors involved.

Did those pollsters take these into consideration when concluding that blacks and Hispanics work harder than their white counterparts?
