It's not the job of a parent to encourage or even accept every desire their child has. Otherwise we'd have a nation full of obese, sexually amoral, screen-addicted kids. Oh wait...

Yes, it's not the parent's call.
Sure. It's the government's call.
And as for the parents that continue to seek to help (without abuse or torture, as mentioned in the op) their child get rid of unwanted same-sex attractions... they should be fined? Jailed? Have their children taken away?
They have the means to seek help for self-esteem issues. Is there a ugly-conversion program or one for a teen who thinks he's too short? We've all suffered throug similar issues....ehat makes same-sex attraction so special to you?
If one does not follow any Christian teaching, then it must be nothing, but yucky. They have the means to seek help for self-esteem issues. Self-esteem issues? What are you talking about?
The kid's attracted to the same sex. His parents want to help him get rid of these attractions. The kid wants to get rid of these attractions. What should happen to the parents when they seek professional help?
Should they be fined? Jailed? Have their child taken away by the state?
Accept how god made them.
Why exactly do they feel the need to change?
Do you say the same to transgenders?
They're experiencing attractions toward their own gender. They want those feelings to cease. What's so difficult to understand, here?
What (do you think) should happen to parents who seek therapy to help their child accomplish this?
God made them identify as transgenders. :idunno:
They're too short to make the basketball team. What's so difficult to understand here?
I'm not in the biz to levy formal punishment....beyond my pay grade.
And mutilating their genitals is, in your opinion, an acceptance of how God made them?
Seriously. What are you talking about?
So it should be illegal... but you don't know whether there should be a punishment?
If that's what it take for them to live authentically....
The child's mental well-being...
shouldn't the parent be the arbiter of what is best for the child's mental well-being?
