That's a fair deduction.
So, obviously it takes something other than our obedience to be saved.
Right. It's Christ's Perfect Obedience on behalf of those He died for John 10:11, 15 that they are made Righteous by His One act of Obedience, not theirs.
Rom. 5:19-21
19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. 20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
Their sins were charged / imputed to Christ instead of them!
Is. 53:6
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way;
and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Rom. 4:8
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
2 Cor. 5:21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
So you see, God will not impute sin on some because He has declared them Righteous!
