I don't see how underestimating civilian death tolls undercuts anything I said. The bombings did their purpose.
Its true that 50% of Tokyo's industry was spread out among its residential and commercial neighborhoods but by March 1945 Japan was in the "last throes" of the war.

Japan's merchant marine had been destroyed, so that the nation was no longer in a position to import the raw materials necessary to sustain the war effort.

Japan's fanatical defiance would continue for another 5 months after the firebombing of Tokyo, but if the light industry imbedded in high population areas of Tokyo had been of great military significance, why wasn't it bombed long before the night of March 9/10 1945?
