It depends on the differences. If the couple is having respectful disagreements, certainly.

Physical violence is assault, and the criminal should be punished corporally.
Drug and alcohol abusers (those who get drunk, not those who have a glass of wine or two for dinner) should be punished corporally.

Agreed. And yet, the only time (barring capital offences with the drugs, alcohol, and physical violence) that separation (ie divorce) is a valid option is for sexual immorality.
