His win-loss percentage isn't impressive. His one and done performances are astounding, to say the least. So again, does he just have bad luck, or can we finally just admit he's been part of the problem?
Neither. He's mostly (as his stats attest) played well. That or you're going to have to change the post season impression of Brady, who even with Peyton's injury riddled drag on his numbers and Brady's impressive performance this year, trails Peyton in the individual metric examination. Not luck, not Peyton (except for the odd game, as with any). Just better teams prevailing. No magic, no stretch of imagination and no bias needed.

Put another way: Is it fair to say that if he'd just played better he might have, ya know, won more playoff games?
Sure. If he isn't injured the other day, by way of, and plays better they win. The same goes for anyone with a post season record that isn't perfect.

Read this on SI this morning and it really sums it up perfectly.
Sums the narrative that's been pushed for a while, the same way Brady is pushed as the second coming of Montana even with SBs decided by a kicker and a first ring where he contributed all of 145 yds to the offense.

Not saying Brady isn't a great qb, just noting how the sports media concoct images and invest in them beyond what a reasoned examination would allow.

Manning's embarrassing playoff record can in no way be sugar-coated.
See, right off the bat there's a goofy statement. It's not his playoff record. That's a team metric. And it isn't embarrassing to lose unless you lose playing embarrassingly. Almost without exception, Peyton can hold his head up on that count, which is why his career playoff numbers are better than Brady's.

Yes, he earned a Super Bowl ring with the Colts in 2006. But
:chuckle: Almost like a "sure I have to note that (while not noting he was the MVP) now let's move on to my narrative..." Good grief.

he’s now 11-13 in the postseason, the most defeats by any quarterback in NFL history
Meaning he's been in 24 playoff games, one of the largest tallies in NFL history. And so it goes...

, and he’s lost five of the past seven playoff games he’s appeared in
Two of that earlier seven happen to be Super Bowls... Just like Brady.

Though his teams were favored in 11 of the 13 playoff games he’s lost -- including Sunday’s -- Manning’s propensity to play his worst when the stakes are the highest is a huge and significant chapter in his record-breaking career.
Simply not true, which is why this hack isn't actually using game stats, only waving a team metric and imposing it on Peyton.

I've addressed the problem with that and provided the numbers that signify on that point.

To be blunt, he's been mediocre at best when he needed to be lights out. Tremendous quarterback, but he slipped consistently on the biggest stages.
To be as blunt, this fellow couldn't spell objective analysis if you spotted him objective analysis. :plain:

His career regular season vs post season comparison. . .

Completion %
65.5 vs 63.5

Yards per attempt
7.7 vs 7.5

TDs per game
2.07 vs. 1.5

Ints per game
.91 vs .91

So his numbers are pretty close. Also remember in the post season he is always playing good teams and in the regular season he is not necessarily, so a slight dip makes sense.

Let's look at Peyton's NINE "one-and-done's"

1999 = 13-3 record, #2 seed, lost at home to Tennessee.

2000 = 10-6 record, #6 seed, lost at Miami

2002= 10-6 record, #5 seed, lost at NY Jets

2005 = 14-2 record, #1 seed, lost at home to Steelers

2007 = 13-3 record, #2 seed, lost at home to Chargers

2008 = 12-4 record, #5 seed, lost at Chargers

2010 = 10-6 record,#3 seed, lost at home to Jets

2012 = 13-3 record, #1 seed, lost at home to Ravens

2014 = 12-4 record, #2 seed, lost at home to Colts

As we see above:

2 one-and-done as a #1 seed at home

3 one-and-done as a #2 seed at home

1 one-and-done as a #3 seed at home

2 one-and-done as a #5 seed on the road

1 one-and-done as a #6 seed on the road

He's gone to the post season 14 times. Of course he will have a lot of losses.

There has only been five QB's to go to the postseason more than 9 seasons:

14 - Peyton Manning

12 - Favre & Brady

11 - Montana

10 - Dan Marino

Therefore, Peyton's record of Nine "one-and-done's" will in all likelihood never be broken.

No other QB has more than four "one-and-done's"

You keep thrusting a metric that doesn't actually tell you how he played and every now and then I'll pop in and correct the impression that might give someone who doesn't know better. As for record one and done, time will tell. The rules are actually making that a greater likelihood than it was not long ago. Marino might have more than a few with the protections allowed. A great qb can more easily take a team into playoff contention to be upset or just sent home by a better team.

The regular season invites it, given most teams don't mostly play the best opponents. In the playoffs weaker teams get exposed. It's as simple as that nine times out of ten. The other time a good team hits a hot streak and wins one they shouldn't else. I note the historic failure of the near perfect Patriot season, by way of.

When Peyton handed the field over to the defense with 43 seconds and a 7 point lead against the Ravens two years ago, and Moore let Flacco sail one over his head...

Would you consider that one and done Manning's fault?

And that has happened more than once.

Yes it was Manning's fault.

Manning threw the terrible interception in overtime that led to the Raven's win.

Nope.

AAFC games don't count.

The NFL does NOT recognize AAFC champions.

Otto Graham took his team to the NFL postseason 6 times.

So what? Were talking pro football right? The NFL decision to not recognize the AAFC was deeply political. Does that mean the AAFC played no football before from 1946-49? The powers that be decided didn't like the AAFC. Does it make sense to recognize the AFL and not the AAFC? Besides when the Browns joined the NFL in 1950 they destroyed the entire NFL proving the Browns were a far superior team. Also, the Pro Football Hall of Fame and pro-football-reference.com do recognize the AAFC.

Should the NFL count Jim Kelly's 9,842 yards & 83 touchdowns he had with the Houston Gamblers of the USFL in 1984 and 1985?

If so, Kelly would move from #24 to #7 on the NFL's all time TD list for quarterbacks.

Show me a qb that has to play into 6 quarters in -20 degrees that wont throw an int. It took 5 quarters to throw that INT. He shouldn't have still been playing because he played good enough for the first 4 quarters to win.

And one play does not lose a game. Nor does one man.

John Elway said one of the reasons John Fox was let go was because the Broncos didn't go out "kicking and screaming" the last two years.

Does someone need to remind Elway that as a QB he lost three Super Bowls by 19, 32, & 45 points?

Yeah, but he will say that wasn't his fault..

You are obviously just a Broncos hater. I'm done until there is a person with objective perspective to talk to.

No, I just don't like hypocrites.

Why in the world would I hate a team that has lost five Super Bowls?

As a Steeler's fan, I hate other teams that win Super Bowls (Dallas, San Fran, New England, etc)
