I bet this thread will really heat up after Hillary becomes president.
I will bet you are right on both accounts. I can say that from 1964, we conservatives did hold this off and it looked as if we might have turned it around, but I think I knew that was not the case by 1995. It seems to me that many of the old time active political conservatives have aged out and it does not seem as if there is a cohesive force to keep this change from occurring. Bush took interventionism to an extreme and now most people want something else, as to what, I doubt many know, but it seems Hillary has a good shot. I am glad it did not happen when I was younger, yet I think this generation has to take the mantle of responsibility and pay for the consequences, whatever they may be.
