Is eternal suffering literal?

Why was the tomb empty? If a new body was created, then the old body must have been around somewhere.
The old body was transfigured into a heavenly form.
Can you show me a scripture passage where the soul is reunited with the body before judgment?
you speak of the resurrection of all bodies on earth that are unbelievers. These will be united with their souls (residing in Hell (some time before the White Throne Judgement. rev. 20:13 is one of them.
And I think you're saying that the original body of the unbeliever is raised and reunited (since that's what "reunited" means--you can't reunite something that has never been united before). And therefore you must believe in the resurrection of the original body, at least for the unbeliever, right? Why not for the believer?
It is for both of them...except the believers body is transfigured (i.e. Jesus ' resurrection) into a heavenly body and will reside in Heaven next to GOD forever. The unbeliever will receive "Death (for the Body) and Hell (for the Soul) at the last Judgement.
I agree that He has told us some will be thrown in the lake of fire.

That verse I quoted talks about "destruction" of both body and soul. Are you saying that "destruction" means something final for the body and not final for the soul? Again, that seems odd.
No, not really...the Soul is immortal and while it is in the lake of fire and brimstone, the soul will only be tormented not destroyed. On the other hand, the body that was resurrected and reunited with its soul cannot survive the lake of fire.. Thus Death for the Body and Hell (torment) for the Soul.

Ok, then the scars make sense, and we also will be resurrected and changed, right?

Death seems to be for the person, not just the "container".

You're saying the soul cannot be destroyed, yet Jesus said someone (God) is able to destroy the soul. Do I understand you correctly? Do you think Jesus was wrong about that?

Since I hold GOD above all other , yes I am sure He can destroy the soul of a person which is made up of the very atoms, He created. You keep getting wider and wider....No since beating a dead horse...for the sake of beating him....Good evening.

Since the bible defines soul in Gen 2:7 as comprising a body made from the dust plus God's breath, the soul can't be only made of material things.

I'm here to discuss things to find out truth. I hope to provide truth as well, when I can. Thus, I am here to debate and not just to preach without anyone questioning my doctrine. If you are only here to preach, you shouldn't stick around. Your doctrine should be accountable to God's word, like mine or anyone else's.
I'm here to share my ideas. If anyone wants to discuss an issue I will read and give my best for a response. I just don't want to waste time arguing when people don't like my ideas. They can take or leave them. If you are not interested then just leave them.
If so, then man ceased being a spirit before Gen 2, and became merely a lifeless body made of clay.
Genesis 2:7 KJV — And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, ...
Oh not at all! The spirit of mankind was just the beginning. Yet, God put that spirit into a living body for a huge purpose! Yes, I say the body had a measure of life in it before the living spirit was breathed into it. Why do I say this? It has to do with "Water." If Ground is considered to be the elements of creation from which man's physical body was formed then what might be the symbolism for "Water" according to God's Word. Well, Jesus explained it to a woman at a well. They discussed water [H2O]... but she first thought of H2O which she needed to sustain her physical life, but Jesus had something else in mind. He had eternal water. Water where she would never thirst again. Eternal life. He could give her another measure of life to save her for his eternal kingdom. Do a study of Genesis 2. You will read where God caused a mist to come upon the ground before he formed Adam's Body. Just enough life to sustain it as he was about to breathe Adam into it. You see it is God who sustains life whether in the body or in our spiritual essence.

Okay what is the content of a spiritual breath? According to scripture it would be wind and water. Both these terms are used to talk about spiritual matters from God. Of course, there is also something called tongues of fire but that was about power from God to glorify Jesus did not happen in Genesis 2. Only Jesus, the second Adam, was was given all power and all things of the Spirit without measure.
That was God's breath that was joined to the lifeless man that together became a living soul:
Genesis 2:7 KJV — And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Again saying: The elements may have started as dust but God added a mist - a measure of life to it before he created Adam's body. The breath contained moisture and wind... but pointing to a living spirit. It was it was the point when the living body and the living male / female spirit joined that mankind became a living soul. Did you know that God has a living soul? I know what this means to me. What does it mean to you?
The spirit/breath that God breathed into Adam was retrieved when Adam died.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 KJV — Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
I agree, but will add: retrieved and stored. Yes, the ground started out as dust ... for scripture says - from dust it came and to dust it will return. That means a dead physical body has not life in it to sustain it. Yet, I still think at this time that the life which was in it before death does return to the ONE who is life and the giver of life. I believe that nothing is ever lost from God's essence for he is eternal. He he wishes to raise a body of bones to life he can.
I think He was:
1 Corinthians 15:4 KJV — And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

If you are saying God was not buried, then you are saying either that "he" in that passage refers to someone other than Jesus or that Jesus was not God, in which case it's a different conversation.
I never knew I said or insinuated anything like that. If I misled anyone I take it back. I do not believe this. Funny I had someone quibble over the word buried. Some sort of nuance between entombed versus buried. Just to clear things up: I believe Jesus died physically with all suffering and pain a human would feel and was buried in a tomb. I believe in the resurrection of Jesus and his ascension to the Father. My Savior lives and has gone to provide a place for us.
I think that passage is better understood as metaphorical, since they are "resting", which is euphemistic of death. If dead, then they are granted white robes (metaphor for purity) for use when they are raised.
For believers I think our robes of white are only for the saintly time of waiting after our physical death. At the resurrection we will receive a new glorified body. Just as Jesus came back in a body that could walk through wall and such so will we receive a body like we have never known as a mortal. That resurrected body will be glorified according to the works we have done while in our mortal bodies. I think this is just one of our rewards promised for that time. If a body has disintegrated of has been eaten by fish how can God raise it and glorify it? Well, he is God and with Him all things are possible. I look at our dusty bodies of the ground as books or recordings. One day the books will be opened and read and awards given. Mine is a mess. Thank you Jesus for being my intercessor.
Such depictions fit well with the lake of fire, which is a place that follows both resurrection and judgment.
I agree. A time when death and hell are thrown in the Lake of fire with lost souls, and Satan. The beast and false prophet is already there by that time.
"Spirit". Let's be precise while we work to figure this out.

"People"? Or "spirits"? Spirits might well be demons, but applying it to people is not as well supported, at least without reading our presuppositions into the text.
Spirits do not equal demons. Spirits is a broad noun talking about many sentient living beings. To most people this includes mankind and angels. I happen to believe that angels, who followed Satan, became the demons. Do you know that in Gen. 3 Satan, and it seems his followers too, were given the right to partake of the ground for the rest of their lives. Doesn't your curiosity wonder things like this: Could this be the reason that they have the permission to indwell the weak bodies of ground belonging to mortal human beings ? Might this be why Satan argued with an angel over the right to possess the body of Moses? He knew Moses was a sinner and felt he had a right to possess/partake of the body for the rest of its life? I suggest: So goes the un-resurrected lifeless body of sinful man so goes the spirit of a man along with Satan into the Lake of Fire.
Supposition. All we know about them is that they were "spirits" in prison at the time in question.

And how do you know this? He knew about "sin", so he must have had some understanding of what a sin was.

Which they could have shared with those around them as preachers of righteousness.
2 Peter 2:5 KJV — And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
All I know it that God was in charge of judgement in the days of Noah when he chose to destroy mankind - except for eight. Those LOST spiritual entities were stored somehow somewhere according to God's pleasure. Scripture calls it "prison." Jesus went there to share the good news and they are still there for it was hoped that after that they would live according to the truth of a Savior until the TIME CAME. I have to ask: might this group be the only group given a second chance???? I don't know but curious.
If He wasn't dead, how could He rise from the dead? "Spiritual death" is a theological term that includes presuppositions about death that aren't necessarily what the Bible teaches.
I believe Jesus, a son of man, was tempted in every way as a human. I believe he suffered and physically died. I believe he took up/refurrecetd his mortal body and presented it to heaven. I believe he will come again.
Jesus is distinct from the "Spirit of God".
God the Father gave all things of the spirit unto Jesus without measuring it out as it was done with humans. Without measure means that he was equal with God. John 3:34-35. Now this will open another topic so I plan to be brief: Spiritually Jesus was equal to God. He was even ONE with the Father. Now, what does one with the Father mean? Well, here goes: God the Father was Spiritually one with God the Spirit, but the Spirit gave him a living bodily form. In Genesis it was called "his image, his likeness." The invisible Spirit of God could come within his creations, be seen, talk and walk among them. God, as the Father had an eternal living bodily form! Adam and woman hid from his presence.

Jesus was also, Emmanuel, God among mortals again, but this time as one of them. God used his one and only glorious image a second time to come within creation, but this time on a mission of salvation from the human affliction. This time God's living image was totally mortal. Jesus may have been all God spiritually as God was willing to sustain the transfer of knowledge ... for Jesus did only what God told him to do and say ... but he was definitely a mortal when it came to his body.
Can you quote that verse for me? I don't recognize it.
I think you were referring to my sharing I Peter 3:19-20
It's hard to speak when you're dead.

Perhaps, but every place of separation is not called "grave". I used to work in a cubicle. Those half walls created a place of separation from other people/places. Nobody ever called it a grave.

God prepared a prison to keep His saints in?

Not "living". if they are "living" then they aren't dead. But we're talking about dead people, aren't we?

I'm not seeing much disagreement about this part.

You are clear. Thanks for your thoughts on it.
Thank you. I think we are very close on this matter.

Is God in here? Everybody else has to get a permit (read the sign).
View attachment 11128
I disagree that God is not here. The curtain has been torn into. When Jesus died the curtain separating humanity from God was ripped apart. We were promised the Spirit to come to us/believers. We are now the body of Christ our Savior, who was God. Isaiah 43:11 I, God, even I, AM the LORD and beside ME there is no Savior. IOW, God came as our Savior in the form of his own begotten Son. John1:18 says that no man had ever seen God, the begotten Son, but John the Baptist revealed him to the world. He is among us but we are his temple.

Did you know that angels were placed at the gate between the Garden and our mortal realm we call earth. Man was bared from re-entering and angels were placed at the gate to guard it. BUT God as the LORD and angels were not denied permission to come and go. I believe that God the Father now works through his risen Son ... but it is still God working.

SO WHAT?!

You can believe whatever you like, but that doesn't make it true!

It doesn't follow based on this that therefore God is omnipresent.

God being with you everywhere YOU go does not mean that God is everywhere PERIOD.

Rather, that fits MY position better, which is that God is wherever He wants to be, and He chooses to be with those who love Him.

This is why proof texting gets people like yourself into trouble, and leads people to believing falsehoods.

God is not omnipresent, except that He can be wherever He wants to be.

None of the verses you provided say otherwise.

Personal anecdotes do not validate a belief.

Again, just because God is with you at all times (just like He said He would be) does not mean that He is everywhere.

To argue such is a non-sequitur. It does not follow logically.
Perhaps personal experiences do not validate things for other people, but if a person has ever had them it is very meaningful to that person. Personally I will say they have taught me things and opened my eyes to scripture and I can't deny them. I believe God is real, knows what is going on in the lives of people and cares. I believe God teaches us through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit which Christ left at Pentecost for his followers at that time and for us now.

So God must be in the same room that a child is being raped, by the very definition you adhere to.
Of course. Only in a crazy Open assumption (it becomes crazy upon inspection if well-meaningly wrong), does a child get left behind and has to go through that hell alone. I was abused. God was there. You sir, are irresponsible and negligent in your assumption. Please (please) don't ever parrot this poorly crafted Open response if you care at all for that child or this one?
Your definition forces Him there, when He cannot stand such vile behavior being in His presence!
"In His presence sin cannot abide" Psalm 5:4 actually says sin shall not abide in His presence. It does not mean that God abandoned me (not at all). He was there. He was not 'in' the act. He was with me.
No, God is not "omnipresent." There is nothing biblical about that form of it.
Psalm 139:7-12? David says literally (no mincing) 'where can I go from Your presence?' VERY clear intimation: nowhere. You and every Open Theist is ever hard pressed to EVER assert otherwise. It means what it means. Do you know, except for a dedication to your ideas instead of God, there is no reason not to entertain you are wrong? In love, love Jesus, not Open Theism. I don't love any theology more than God and want to know Him. Philippians 3:10 I don't give much credence to pat-answers when scriptures push me beyond them. This is where we collectively, as lovers of God, need to be.
You sound like @Lon.
Hence my entrance here (thank you for thinking of me, not quite on page with all Ps82).
I don't say God is omnipresent. That is your assumption.
Er, because scripture: Psalm 139:7-12 Revelation 6:16 You have to reconcile scriptures and meet them head-on. Neither of us have a choice or convenience. Colossians 1:17, how is it possible for 'all things to consist in Him' without Him being there? The Open proposal just cannot stand up to scriptural scrutiny. God's word demands proper reckoning without being gimmicky or pat-answered.
In other words, you're begging the question. That's a fallacy.
This frankly, and in prayer, looks near-sighted to me.
God DID create out of nothing.
Here and next, I'm on page with you; and with you, believe it essential that we clarify truth: Hebrews 11:3 ESV By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
Stop now before you commit blasphemy.

Jesus WAS and IS and WILL ALWAYS BE PERFECT, both before He became a man, and during His earthly life as the Son of Man, and forevermore as God and Man.

To correct you, Jesus was the only man who ever was a perfect man, because He was God.

I'm jumping back in this thread with my thoughts on the topic. Probably will repeat some things.

1.) First, at this time, I do not believe humans will suffer eternally in the Lake of Fire.

2.) I do believe lost souls continue to suffer in a place most people call hell. Can you imagine how terrible that must be? If the Saints in white robes cried out from their heavenly realm: "How long must we wait before ... etc.? " Think how much lost souls are crying out as they endure the terrors of long suffering in hell.

3.) I believe in what is called The Second Death and that it occurs at the event called The Lake of Fire. The reason I do not think humanity will suffer eternally in the Lake of Fire at The Second Death is this: It has been said: Fear not the one who can kill the body, but The ONE who can destroy the body AND the soul. Now, most people say the soul is man's cognizant spiritual essence. IOW, the part of him that gives him self awareness and makes him an individual with ideas etc. [Personally, I explain 'a soul' a little differently but the nuance does not matter in this topic.]

Now, most people understand 'The ONE' which is referred to in the passage above is the creator of mankind. The statement above obviously tells us it is God who can destroy both the lifeless body of lost humanity as well as the sentient spiritual soul of a lost individuals. At this time, I conclude this means the God plans to do just that and it ends the suffering of unsaved humanity.

4.) Now, I also consider that Satan and maybe his lot of rebellious angels will suffer eternally.

Now, my thoughts are not set in stone ... so I welcome people who can prove me wrong. Not people who will just call me names and put down my ideas without scripture to show me otherwise. Looking forward to a conversation.

In Revelation 20, John mentions a place called the Lake of Fire. Although this burning lake is only mentioned in the last book of the Bible, it is a significant place that Christians need to know about since it reminds us of the consequences of sinfulness, Jesus’ sacrifice to save us from everlasting punishment, and the need to tell the gospel. Let’s look at five biblical truths about this fiery place.

1. Those Who Reject Christ Will Spend Eternity in the Lake of Fire

After unbelievers are resurrected, they will stand before God at the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11-13).
According to the Book of Revelation, those whose names are not written in the Lamb’s Book of Life will be thrown into the Lake of Fire, a place of everlasting punishment (Revelation 20:15).

In their resurrected bodies, unbelievers will live forever in this burning lake, which is “the second death” (Revelation 20:14).
While there are people who teach that the Lake of Fire is not a permanent place of punishment or that it is merely a place of annihilation or correction, those views do not have the support of Scripture.
The Bible teaches that those in the Lake of Fire, along with the Antichrist, False Prophet, and Satan, will be tormented forever (Revelation 20:10; Matthew 3:12; Revelation 14:10-11).

Jesus also affirms this in the parable of the sheep and goats, stating that unbelievers will “go away to eternal punishment” (Matthew 25:46).
Many Christians may feel as if spending eternity in the Lake of Fire is an unjust punishment for unbelievers, but we need to remember that where we spend eternity depends on whether we trust in Jesus for salvation or reject His free offer of grace (John 3:18; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9).
Because of our sins, we all deserve everlasting punishment in the burning lake (Romans 3:23; 6:23). Only because Jesus lovingly came to die in our place can anyone receive eternal life (John 3:16). Everyone has the choice to trust in Christ or turn away from Him.
Believers do not have to worry about being thrown into the burning lake because their eternal salvation is secure in Jesus (John 10:28). However, knowledge of the Lake of Fire should compel us to share the gospel with others.

God does not delight in lost people dying, and neither should we (Ezekiel 18:23; 1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9). Since we possess eternal life, we should give all we have to take the good news to others, including those who have little to no access to the gospel.

2. The Lake of Fire Is Different from Hell

Since the Lake of Fire is only mentioned in Revelation, which people approach differently based on various eschatological viewpoints, many Christians see it as a symbol of hell.
Some commentators and preachers who follow specific eschatological systems equate hell and the Lake of Fire. However, there are indications in Scripture that the Lake of Fire is different from hell.
First, no one is currently in the Lake of Fire. Unbelievers will not enter the burning lake until after the resurrection and Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11-15).

Today, when an unbeliever dies, their soul goes to hell, not the Lake of Fire. Thus, we are wise to consider: how can the Lake of Fire be the same place as hell if the unbelieving dead are currently in hell but not in the Lake of Fire?
Furthermore, Sheol in Hebrew and Hades in Greek refers to the general place of the dead (Matthew 11:23; Luke 10:15; 16:23).
This includes hell, where unbelievers currently go after death. Hades (Sheol) is only a temporary, intermediate state since Scripture teaches that death and Hades (including hell) will be thrown into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:14). Thus, the Lake of Fire is the eternal destination of unbelievers, not hell.
Finally, we know that heaven, where believers go after death, is an intermediate dwelling as well. The Bible teaches that the old heaven will pass away, and believers will live forever with the Lord on the New Heaven and New Earth (Revelation 21:1-3).

We should not be surprised at the difference between hell and the Lake of Fire since there is also a difference between heaven and the New Heaven and New Earth.
Although various interpretations exist about the Lake of Fire and its connection to hell, we should consider the differences that are found in the Bible.
Eschatological systems are helpful in providing teachings about the End Times, but we need to step back and consider the plain reading of Scripture instead of assuming that Revelation is merely a book of symbols.

3. The Antichrist and False Prophet Are First

The Lake of Fire was created for “the devil and his angels,” but the Antichrist and False Prophet are the first occupants of the burning lake (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 19:20).
After they attempt to wage war against Jesus’ coming, the Antichrist and False prophet will be overthrown by the breath of Christ’s mouth (2 Thessalonians 2:8; Revelation 19:19-20).

The Antichrist and the False Prophet may think they are powerful, but they cannot stand against the King of kings and Lord of lords (Revelation 19:16).
After their defeat, they will be tossed alive into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 19:20). While some proponents of annihilation have used this verse to argue that the Antichrist and False Prophet are burned alive and destroyed, the rest of Scripture clarifies the situation.
Later, when the devil is thrown into the Lake of Fire, the Bible says, “The devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night forever and ever” (Revelation 20:10, emphasis added). Their punishment is eternal.

4. Varying Levels of Punishment in the Lake of Fire

During the Great White Throne Judgment, unbelievers will receive various degrees of punishment based on their deeds (Revelation 20:12-13). This judgment is not about salvation, as only those who deny Jesus are judged at the Great White Throne (Revelation 20:12).

The lack of the participants’ names in the Lamb’s Book of Life further supports the view that they have already rejected Jesus’ offer of eternal life (Revelation 20:15).
Just as believers will receive different rewards based on their deeds at the Judgment (Bema) Seat of Christ, unbelievers will receive different punishments based on what they have done (Matthew 11:24; John 19:11; 1 Corinthians 3:8; 4:5; 2 Corinthians 5:10).
How this will look in the Lake of Fire, we do not know for certain. However, even though some unbelievers will have a lesser punishment than others, they will still live forever in the burning lake with Satan and his demons.

5. Satan’s Final Destination Is the Lake of Fire

A final important thing Christians need to know about the Lake of Fire is that it is the eternal destiny of Satan. Despite popular depictions in media or literary works showing Satan ruling hell, he is not in hell, the Lake of Fire, or any other place of confinement currently.
Instead, the Bible tells us that the devil roams the earth seeking to “devour” people and blind them from the truth of the gospel (Job 1:7; 2 Corinthians 4:4; 1 Peter 5:8). He is active in the world, opposing God’s plan and trying to make believers unfruitful.
Jesus will bring the last crushing blow to Satan after the Millennial Kingdom. The devil will urge a final rebellion against the Lord, but Christ will quickly stop the attack and cast Satan into the fiery lake (Revelation 20:7-10).
Then, Satan and his demons will be in the place that was originally created for them (Matthew 25:41).
The fact that the devil’s end is assured in Scripture should cause believers to rejoice. Satan is our enemy and tries to make us stumble and ruin our witness through temptation (2 Corinthians 2:11; 1 Peter 5:8).
However, we know that our Lord Jesus has defeated Satan, and on that day when the devil is thrown into the Lake of Fire, our enemy will no longer be able to tempt us or cause problems.
Let us continue to guard ourselves by putting on the armor of God since Satan knows that his time is short (Ephesians 6:11; Revelation 12:12).

Why Does This Matter?

Many Christians feel uncomfortable with the idea of unbelievers experiencing everlasting torment in the Lake of Fire. We want all people to know Christ, but the Bible is clear that some people will refuse His offer of salvation.
Instead of rejecting biblical truth because of feelings, we should trust what God’s Word says and allow the knowledge to urge us into action to share the good news of Jesus with others.

Isn't the second DEATH for mankind a form of everlasting punishment? IOW, a person is finally dead and gone for ever. Now, mankind experiences the first death ...one where we have a ceremony and where his spirit goes to a place of heat and torment ... as it was with the arrogant selfish rich man who could see Father Abraham but could not go to him. These are the humans destined for the SECOND DEATH. Where does it say that men suffer forever ... or does it say they face another DEATH?
In their resurrected bodies, unbelievers will live forever in this burning lake, which is “the second death” (Revelation 20:14).
While there are people who teach that the Lake of Fire is not a permanent place of punishment or that it is merely a place of annihilation or correction, those views do not have the support of Scripture.
The Bible teaches that those in the Lake of Fire, along with the Antichrist, False Prophet, and Satan, will be tormented forever (Revelation 20:10; Matthew 3:12; Revelation 14:10-11).
Rev. 20:14 nor 15 say that their resurrected bodies will live forever in this burning lake. They simply state: And death [the first death] and hell [where they have been waiting] were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. IOW, those who had already died mortally and in an unsaved state were held in a place of suffering. Not only were the lost cast into the lake of fire but also their place of torment. A nuance is that the place of torment was gone forever and humans faced their final death.
Jesus also affirms this in the parable of the sheep and goats, stating that unbelievers will “go away to eternal punishment” (Matthew 25:46).
The question is this: What is eternal punishment? Is it eternal suffering of sentient people or is it final and eternal extinction?
Many Christians may feel as if spending eternity in the Lake of Fire is an unjust punishment for unbelievers, but we need to remember that where we spend eternity depends on whether we trust in Jesus for salvation or reject His free offer of grace (John 3:18; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9).
I agree.
Because of our sins, we all deserve everlasting punishment in the burning lake (Romans 3:23; 6:23). Only because Jesus lovingly came to die in our place can anyone receive eternal life (John 3:16). Everyone has the choice to trust in Christ or turn away from Him.
I agree; therefore, I'm wondering are people given eternal life within the lake of fire in order to suffer even more? Or are they eternally denied their chance at eternal life and instead are eternally gone?
Believers do not have to worry about being thrown into the burning lake because their eternal salvation is secure in Jesus (John 10:28). However, knowledge of the Lake of Fire should compel us to share the gospel with others.
I so agree and will say that people need to be warned how they will suffer in hell in what will seem like an eternity until God is ready to end all things and throw the lost and hell into the lake of fire.
God does not delight in lost people dying, and neither should we (Ezekiel 18:23; 1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9). Since we possess eternal life, we should give all we have to take the good news to others, including those who have little to no access to the gospel.
I agree. Lord help me share the good news of salvation.

I agree that hell and the lake of fire are different. Scripture is clear about that: The first death is hell for the lost. The lake of fire is the second death for the lost. The two experiences are different and in what ways is what I am seeking to understand.
I so agree with this stance. Hell/Hades/Sheol is a temporary intermediate state. The lake of fire is an everlasting punishment... which could mean an eternal extermination.
I so agree .. step back. Consider what scripture actually says.

Really not ready to go here with the A.C and the F. P. but will share my ideas briefly: The antichrist will be a political figure. The False prophet will be a religious leader. Are they a form of surrogate for Satan and his demons? Likely they may live eternally suffering in the lake of fire for Satan and angels were created to be eternal sentient beings from the beginning. Mankind was destined to suffer and die a mortal death and suffer more in hell as they wait without hope to face the 2nd eternal death.

Interesting ... The book of life versus the books of men's lives which are opened and used to proclaim judgment over the lost. Well, we already know their judgment. They face the second death. Whether men are already mortally dead and in hell or die at the time of the great white throne event they are sentenced according to the things they did in their lifetime. For them no acceptance of Christ and no eternal life given to them in the kingdom of our Lord Jesus. Rather those who are left dead in their rejection and sins, whether alive on earth or in hell, will go to the lake of fire. The question still remains: Do they receive eternal life to suffer eternally or do they not receive eternal life and are instead eternally annihilated?
So far I just haven't seen any list of different types of punishments they will receive. I've only heard of the Lake of Fire. I have heard that Christians will receive various types of rewards according to their works. I really am not studying this topic at the moment.

I agree and think this is Biblical and plain.
I so agree. I think scripture does say the lake of fire was designed for them.
Great point.

I can't argue with your statement. Here is a personal experience which gave me some insight into the works of the Lord. Late at night and not able to sleep whining about life usually starts; so, I was whining and asking God questions: If Jesus has overcome Satan and has all power to forgive sins and heal then why are we in this world still suffering? God replied: "I waited on you Bonnie." With that one statement I understood so much! God first commandment to mankind was to reproduce and multiply. God is waiting on his children to be born! Death was made a process to happen over time for birthing was designed to be a process occurring over time. God establish places of holding humanity as he waiting on me, you, and all people to be born. This is why lost souls suffer in hell ... they wait there until God's timing comes. This is why the white robed saints cry out and say, "How long must we wait ....?" Our merciful God is growing himself a family. The end of things and the lake of fire won't come until God is ready for it to happen. I began to thank God for my life and decided that with God's help I would face my journey of life and suffering if it meant that he waited on my children, my grand children, etc. I wanted as many of them to be with me in the kingdom of Christ. It would all be worth my journey. I pray for the Lord to give me courage to face what I must and for the faith I need to cling to the hope of his promise. Amen.

I agree they need to know about it. It just seems that it was made for the angels. I believe hell is the place of suffering for humanity and that angels have not yet suffered any sort of hell. They haven't even gone to the PIT. The PIT was a place the legions of angels did not want to go at the time Jesus sent them into pigs instead. I think angels will go there when Christ comes to rule ... probably Satan goes chained to the PIT, but I'm no sure whether the False Prophet and anti-christ go there with Satan or if they go to hell with the rest of lost humanity. Yet,there is a verse that insinuates that "The LOF is where the False Prophet and the anti-christ already are." They may be the first to go to LOF... preceding Satan.

But, regarding the Lake of Fire it is said: death and hell will be thrown into it. This is called the Second death for mankind. A destruction of the body and soul of man which God is able to do. Death will be destroyed and there will be no more that place of torment called hell.

EXCEPT there will be one for the angels. Matthew 25:41 Then he will say to those on his left, "Depart from me, you cursed into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. vs 46 and these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

See ... it is the punishment that lasts forever ... and it only the righteous that receives eternal life. To me that means follower of Chris live forever ... but lost humanity goes into the Lake of Fire without eternal life and their punishment is final.

Let me see what you have to say.

1. Those Who Reject Christ Will Spend Eternity in the Lake of Fire

After unbelievers are resurrected, they will stand before God at the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11-13).
Check
According to the Book of Revelation, those whose names are not written in the Lamb’s Book of Life will be thrown into the Lake of Fire, a place of everlasting punishment (Revelation 20:15).
Correct, but because they are thrown in does not mean they exist forever with the gift of eternal life from Christ. Matthew 25:41 says that the Lake Of Fire WAS PREPARED for the devil and his angels. No where does it say, "And it was prepared for MANKIND to live eternally." Rev. 20:14-15 And death and hell were cast into the LOF. This is the second death. And who so ever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the LOF. I suggest that if one's name is not written in the book of life, then God takes back the life he had given them ... even the life they spent tormented in hell ... HE takes it back into HIS spirit from which it came. I suggest from what I have seen that The Second Death for humanity is final/eternally over, but suffering not final for Satan and his angels.
In their resurrected bodies, unbelievers will live forever in this burning lake, which is “the second death” (Revelation 20:14).

I don't agree with view # 1.
Doesn't the Bible teach that it is Christ who brought the gift of an extra measure of eternal life to those who choose to recognized and honor him as their Lord and Savior? He discussed this with the Woman at the Well. If you know of a verse where Christ told people that he was going to give lost souls eternal life share with me?
Isn't eternal life a good gift ... the good news? Eternal life in the kingdom of our Lord is a blessing. Mankind was created to have two death. I can explain how God established this by using Genesis 2 and 3, but won't at this time and just say:
The first is when we die physically... now it seems, at that time, we either go to hell as one who rejected God and the Savior ... or go to be with Christ as a saint where we receive our robes of white and await on our glorified bodies.

But, I think, the second death is where the process of dying and the storage place called hell are both eradicated in the Lake of Fire.
While there are people who teach that the Lake of Fire is not a permanent place of punishment or that it is merely a place of annihilation or correction, those views do not have the support of Scripture.
The Bible teaches that those in the Lake of Fire, along with the Antichrist, False Prophet, and Satan, will be tormented forever (Revelation 20:10.
Agree

http://www.christianity.com/bible/search/?ver=niv&q=matthew+3:12
That verse says the fire is unquenchable not that suffering in the fire is unquenchable. I agree the fire will never go out but this verse does not prove whether men still live in it.
The LOF is not mentioned in the entire chapter. In fact, Christ has returned to rule the nations at this time; so, the LOF event has not yet happened. It does mention fire and brimstone, but this chapter seems to describe a great battle on Earth between men and angels. The gospel is even simultaneously preached on Earth to all nations by angels at the same time. Another angel says that Babyon is fallen ... because of her sins. A third angel says all those who 'took the mark' shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the angels taking part in the battl and before the LAMB. There is also a mention of 'a great winepress of the wrath of God'. This is where human blood rises to the height of a horse's bridle. This happens when people are dying and being tormented on Earth with fire and brimstone. It just all seems to be describing how lots of men/people will die in this great battle and how the dead are being harvested by angels and put in places which God has prepared for them where they will wait for the 1,000 year reign to end. Verses 9-10 specifically say: ... If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand .. the same [men] shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out [on Earth]. Poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation [his feelings of unfair treatment]; and he [this individual] shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. Now, what is the antecedent for the pronouns his and he??? I suggest it is people on Earth

Well, that's just how I see Rev. chapter 14.

Jesus also affirms this in the parable of the sheep and goats, stating that unbelievers will “go away to eternal punishment” (Matthew 25:46).
There is a place called outer darkness where men will go before the time for eternal punishment comes.
Now, why can't the later time which follows for eternal punishment mean eternal death ... never to be seen again ... gone eternally?

I agree. Praise God our Savior. May Jesus receive all the glory for what he has provided for humanity . May many people accept him and his gift of eternal life with him. Amen

I so agree with the above. I think the LOF was meant for Satan and his angels. Man's second death is Satan's first and his death is one of eternal life in the LOF. I think the two are very different.

I don't know why God can't be selective. The Anti-Christ and the False Prophet are demon filled. Why couldn't it be God's will that they suffer forever? I don't know the answer to this. I just think God can do what he wants.

There will be a time when people are judged according to their works ... but is that the time when rewards are given. In the parable of the talents we are told that God gives gifts according to the abilities of individuals and if they have been a good servant and multiply their talents they will receive more and reign and rule in his kingdom. But, if a servant wasted what they had been given he would not be accepted. There is a judgment of the saved but for the purpose of giving rewards.
May I suggest there are TWO types of BOOKS OPENED!
First, every individual's book of their earthly existence was opened and all people ever did was 'read by God' - so to speak. Those who had not accepted Christ were already judged ... and were in or on the way to hell... to await the LOF.
Secondly, came the NEXT BOOKS to be opened. They were called 'The Book of LIFE.' Those given the gift of life were judged and rewarded accordingly.
After this event of judgement and rewards, then death and hell were cast into the Lake of Fire.

Bright Raven, what are your thoughts on this? I'd like to hear someone else's.

The lack of the participants’ names in the Lamb’s Book of Life further supports the view that they have already rejected Jesus’ offer of eternal life (Revelation 20:15).
Agree
Just as believers will receive different rewards based on their deeds at the Judgment (Bema) Seat of Christ, unbelievers will receive different punishments based on what they have done (Matthew 11:24; John 19:11; 1 Corinthians 3:8; 4:5; 2 Corinthians 5:10).
I think their punishment is already established. Reject God's Savior, go to hell, end up being thrown in the LOF when death and that place called hell are eternally consumed.
How this will look in the Lake of Fire, we do not know for certain. However, even though some unbelievers will have a lesser punishment than others, they will still live forever in the burning lake with Satan and his demons.

I disagree with the final conclusion ... for I think death is no more ... and that hellish place of confinement is gone forever.

At this time I totally agree Satan is free and roaming.
I agree this is how it plays out.

Amen ...

I agree. I think enduring hell for a l o n g season is horrible enough ... I don't think I could endure heaven knowing that my loved ones are continuing to suffer eternally while I enjoy the blessings in heaven. Any way I think I have discovered how God plans to curse Satan to die like men and how he planned to rescue his followers while eradicating the lost souls of men eternally. My study revolves around Genesis 2 and 3; Psalm 82 and 2nd Corinthians 5.
