Well, lessening non essential contact and shutting down pubs, clubs etc will certainly reduce the spread of the disease. It's impossible to stop it altogether but if the spread is contained then health services can cope more. Even with these measures in place the tallies are rising. Just think how much more and in a short space of time they'd have escalated without containment...

It's not fun this lockdown stuff either just from a personal perspective. We will see indeed.

As already explained he's come in for criticism himself with the handling of the outbreak and in some ways I consider it justifiable. It made more sense to put the country in lockdown earlier than encourage people not to go out to pubs and gatherings as it was pretty inevitable it was going to come to this anyway. That being said, I think he's handled things pretty well since then and I'm not a fan of the current administration.

I noticed that you used the Chinese statistics, in this thread or t'other, which is commendable in as much as you'll make stand and base your calculation on the Chinese stats, even though most members here think that they are deceptive, and 'deceptive' is being kind. That's what I call brave.

I read another estimate elsewhere on IT today, somewhat higher than yours, calculating by dead-reckoning on 2 million US patients and 140,000 US deaths, but what do they know, eh? But I'll hold your figure close to heart because it suggests something under 20,000, which is wonderful news.

I do, I'm just under no illusions as to what party politics comprises of in the UK and am generally cynical all ends up. I'm not interested in the royal family as I've explained to you already and would have no problem if the whole was just abolished. If you want to start a thread about Johnson, Charles, the queen, prince Philip or whoever then you go for it. I'm not obliged to talk about stuff that doesn't interest me and believe it or not, what happens in America affects not just Americans either.
