ECT God's Grace, is it really unmerited?

What is the one thing for which we cannot earn His favor that our thinking about it being unmerited, would be accurate?

. . . but other than that, what? Merited or no?

I can't understand what you're asking. Would you please rephrase it?

Lets just take this part:

"What is the one thing for which we cannot earn His favor that our thinking about it being unmerited, would be accurate?"

The one thing meaning the one thing we could not do for ourselves irrespective of our relationship with Him? Clue: We don't even have to ask for it?

It's unmerited because we can't earn salvation. The only way we could do that is live a perfect life. Since it's impossible for us to live a perfect life, Jesus did it for us and gives it to us as a gift. I suggest he only gives the gift to those who are worthy. Grace covers what we could never do but there are things we can do and should do to be considered worthy.

1 Thes.2:10 You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers; 11 just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children, 12 so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

Rev.3:4 But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments; and they will walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. 5 He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life,

What is behind this carefully crafted question is

I know we can't merit salvation but everything else has to be worked for [behind this deceit is the belief some have reached a higher excellency of holiness than others]

...it leaves you to guess who these wonderful persons may be

God's Grace (favor) is never given to those that do not merit it.

Most people are confused because Paul mentions several times that we cannot obligate God to look upon us with favor through our works.

It is up to God and the Son of God to determine what merits God's Grace (favor).

Throughout the Bible God has told us what we can do to merit His Grace.

Some of those things are fearing God, believing in the name of the Son of God, and humbling ourselves before God.

Yes, that is so both in the OT and NT. . However, the one thing that was by unmerited grace was redemption in which case all mankind was redeemed irrespective of relationships with God. Having said that, there was a caveat in the receiving of the benefits of it and that was the receiving of the account of Jesus Christ. By this were the captives held by Satan in the grave were set free as evidence of the surety of it all for the living.

Even when you are on your very best behavior,

You are miserably violating the character of God.

Reconciled by His death (shed blood - grace), much more.....saved by His life. (grace accessed by faith). Which seems to be what you're saying here.

Romans 5:10
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

ALL is UNMERITED - "that the Excellency of the power may be OF GOD, and NOT of us" 2 Cor. 2:4.

"For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature" Gal. 6:15.

But many, in that day, will be judged by their works [deeds] to determine what they were based upon, will they not? In this, the righteous will scarcely be saved. (1Peter 4:18 KJV) For understanding this, I like my interpretation of Eph 1:1 KJV, "Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to [those learning how to be ] faithful in Christ Jesus"

Yes! And our part?

Throughout the Bible God has told us what we can do to merit His Grace.

Can one have such faith having never heard the gospel?

Question: What is the gospel purposed for if not to expose the god of our life and make a discussion about them??

Some of those things are fearing God, believing in the name of the Son of God, and humbling ourselves before God.

Absolutely! And all this in the afterwards of our salvation.

YES! Now, on that basis of that agreed upon understanding, lets try and get along. . ;)
