Still think animals don't have spirit?

God is Spirit. He is Triune.

God made man in His image and likeness.

He made us as tripartite beings.

He made us so that we could have a relationship with Him.

How can we have a relationship with Him if we are unable to relate to Him.

Thus we have a spirit.

.

God also wanted us to be able to interact with the world He created, so He gave us a physical body to do so.

.

God did not make animals in His image, nor in His likeness.

Yet, based on the observation that human beings can form relationships with animals, and even animals with other animals, and since humans are more than just physical bodies, being able to interact with the world God has created, and the animals also are able to interact with the world and with humans, we know that tripartite man shares at least two of those qualities with animals. We also know that at least one of those two parts is not "spirit," because God is Spirit, and we can relate to God because we are part spirit, because we are made in His Image and His likeness, but animals cannot relate to God, but they CAN relate to man. And so, we call this third part (in addition to "body" and "spirit") a soul, which is very similar to a spirit, to the point where the two are seemingly interchangeable.

Thus, while humans are body/soul/spirit, animals are only body/soul, no spirit, for they do not relate to God.

Also, some creatures have more of a soul than other animals, being able to relate more strongly to humans and other animals. Think dogs, cats, horses, and elephants, as opposed to sharks, insects, snakes, and spiders.

.

Which brings us to plants, which are only "body."

Plants cannot relate to humans, or to animals, nor humans or animals to plants. Plants also cannot relate to God. They don't even know what any of those things are, humans, animals, God. You can try to form a relationship with a plant, you can even grow attached to a plant (some people take it too far, even, and it becomes sin), but at the end of the day, no matter how hard you try, you can't befriend a plant. Thus, while plants (and by extension, microorganisms) have bodies, they do not have a soul, nor do they have a spirit.

.

So to answer your question, no, I have never thought that animals have a spirit, and nothing you have said has convinced me otherwise.

But animals do, in fact, have a soul, and that is what allows us humans to interact with them, and form bonds with them, and they with us, but not with God, for they were not created in His image and His likeness.

None of what you have said addresses the fact that spirits envy.
Since the word of God says the spirit envies, how could a soul without a spirit envy?
