"To him that does no works, but believes on him that justifies the ungodly, HIS FAITH is counted for righteousness" Romans 4:5.
"For what does the scripture say? Abraham BELIEVED God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness" Romans 4:3.
"Therefore being justified by FAITH, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" Romans 5:1.
"But that no man is justified by the law (works and obedience) in the sight of God, it is evident: for, THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH" Galatians 3:11.
There are other scriptures in the Bible that say pretty much the same thing as the above scriptures are saying. We are justified by faith because we are justified by Christ. Jesus is God's justifier, Romans 3:26. Jesus as God's new Adam, justifies the ungodly and reconciles us and the world to God, 2 Corinthians 5:18, 19.
Calvinism, Catholicism, Religion or whatever, was not needed to reconcile us to God. We were justified by faith and by faith alone.
"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, were we not Calvinist? Lord, Lord, didn't we join the Catholic church? Lord, Lord, didn't we obey the commandments? Lord, Lord, didn't we...?
Works and obedience are the results of being saved, not the cause of it. All who come to Christ to receive salvation are given the Holy Spirit, Galatians 3:2. It is the Spirit working in the life of the believer that produces good works and the Christian life.
"For we are HIS workmanship , created in Jesus Christ unto good works, which God has ordained that we should walk in them" Ephesians 2:10.
This is what James was talking about when he said... "Faith without works is dead" James 2:17. If there is no Spirit motivation in works or obedience, its dead faith.
