Amen Brother! The Spiritual Things 1 Cor. 9:11 means the Gospel, which can only be embraced and received by those who have been made Spiritual, Born Again, partakers of New Birth John 3:3. However, the natural man who is spiritually dead, if he remain so in that condition during his lifetime, shall be prevented from embracing and receiving spiritual truth savingly; of which the Gospel is 1 Cor. 2:13-14.

Exactly !

The fact that man needs to be born again before he can see the kingdom of God Jn 3:3

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

This also relates to what Paul teaches in 2 Cor 4:3-4 how that men who are lost[unregenerate state] have the Gospel hidden from them.

3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Its hid from their minds. The word hid means καλύπτω

to hide, veil
  1. to hinder the knowledge of a thing
So when one is Born of God, they are saved, no longer lost, hence then enabled to believe the Gospel of their Salvation,/believe on Christ who hath saved them !

Exactly Brother! We must be delivered from that blindness of mind before we can believe the Glorious Gospel.

Now either God delivered us from that blindness of mind, or we delivered ourselves.

So then, if we say we believed before we were saved, and in order to get saved, then we believe we saved ourselves out of the power of darkness and bondage of satan.

Another scripture that Illustrates that believing /faith is evidence of the new birth or having been born again is 2 Thess 2 13

But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

The sanctification of the Spirit preceded and effected the belief of the Truth, which is the Gospel Paul preached to them Vs 14

whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

See Paul had once written that his Gospel was hid to the lost[unregenerate] 2 Cor 4 3

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

However to these Thessalonians, they werent in a lost state spiritually, but had been sanctified by the Spirit, saved from spiritual death, given new spiritual life, even born anew.

I agree with John Gill on the meaning of sanctification of the Spirit:

through sanctification of the spirit, and belief of the truth by sanctification is meant, not anything external, as reformation of life, obedience to the law, or outward submission to Gospel ordinances; but internal holiness, which lies in a principle of spiritual life in the soul, and in a principle of spiritual light on the understanding; in a flexion of the will to the will of God, and the way of salvation by Christ; in a settlement of the affections on divine and spiritual things, and in an implantation of all grace in the heart; and is called the sanctification of "the spirit", partly from the spirit or soul of man being the principal seat of it, and chiefly from the Spirit of God being the author of it; and this being a means fixed in the decree of election to salvation, shows that holiness is not the cause of election, yet is certain by it, and is necessary to salvation; and that the doctrine of election is no licentious doctrine, since it provides for and secures true and real holiness. "Truth" designs either the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the truth of types and promises, and the substance of the truth of the Gospel, in whom it lies, and by whom it comes; or the Gospel itself, which comes from the God of truth, lies in the Scriptures of truth, is dictated and directed into by the spirit of truth; the sum of it is Christ the truth, and has nothing in it but truth. The "belief" or "faith" of this intends, not an historical faith, or a mere assent to truth; but a cordial embracing of it, a receiving of the love of the truth, a feeling of the power of it unto salvation, and a believing in Christ, the substance of it; which is a seeing of him spiritually, and a going out of the soul to him in acts of hope; reliance, trust, and dependence; and this being also a means settled in the choice of men to salvation, makes it appear, that faith is no cause of election, but the effect of it; that it is necessary to salvation, and therefore appointed as a means; that it is certain to the elect by it, and that they therefore cannot be finally and totally deceived, or be carried away with the error of the wicked, or with the deceivableness of unrighteousness with which antichrist works.

Amen Brother, and excellent commentary by John Gill !

A person's Believing / Faith in Christ, is the result of God the Holy Spirit's Work of Sanctification in them in New Birth, even as Jesus attests to in:

John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Hence it must be Given by God Phil. 1:29, who is the Author and Finisher of the Faith of God's Elect, to believe on Him, because for them it was already fixed in the decree of their Election to Salvation, even from Everlasting.

Another scripture that confirms that faith/obedience is evidence of a previous Sovereign work of the Spirit is 1 Peter 1:2

2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

The obedience here is evangelical obedience or faith obedience as in Rom 1:5

By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name

Rom 16:26

But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith

Acts 6:7

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Sanctification of the Spirit is also New Birth!

Amen Brother ! When God sends the Gospel to them that Fear Him PS. 25:14, to their New Regenerate / Born Again Heart, it's so that according to His Will, and by His Grace, they shall Believe and Obey it, which brings them to His Desired end result: Their obedience to the Faith Rom. 1:5, and Sanctification of the Spirit ; according to His Eternal Purpose in Christ Jesus Eph. 3:11 for every one of His Elect Children 1 Pet. 1:2; Titus 1:1.

Excellent observation because thats exactly to whom the word of Salvation is sent, to them that fear Him Acts 13 26

Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.

Remember Cornelius feared God and the Gospel was sent to him Acts 10

Another scripture passage that indicates that believing on Christ is the evidence of having been born again is Jn 8: 43 ,47

Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

He that is of God heareth God’s words:
ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

In order to hear Gods words spiritually ye must be of God Jesus says, which I believe means born of God.

Now since Faith cometh into manifestation/activity by hearing the Word of God as per Rom 10:17

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

It is reasonably concluded that being born of God first evidences the Hearing of Faith/Word of Faith or of God ! Also when Paul writes of the Hearing of Faith Gal 3:2,5

This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith

The hearing of Faith is possible only by the born of God !

Yes indeed Brother! The hearing of Faith is only for the regenerate, those who have received the Spirit through Faith.

So it's only after receiving the Spirit, can one now Believe the Gospel; because now with the Spirit, they've been given Spiritual Hearing:

And Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God Rom. 10:17.

Because the elect of God have a representative union with Christ their Head, and because He rose from the dead as such, each one of them witl experience of His resurrection by being given a new birth or spiritual resurrection Eph 2:5-6; 1 Pet 1:3

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved)

6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

1 Pet 1:3

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Now the same Apostle wrote in His Epistle of 1 Jn 5:1

Whosoever believeth[is believing] that Jesus is the Christ is[was] born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

The phrase "is born of God" is in the perfect past tense indicating a completed act in the past with present results. So the presently believing now is resultive of having been born of God in the past, hence agreeing that believing is evidence of having been born of God, and I believe God here means God the Holy Spirit !
And 1 John 5:1 and IS BORN / GENNAO is a verb in the PERFECT TENSE , PASSIVE VOICE and in the INDICATIVE MOOD ,

The PERFECT TENSE mans it begins in PAST time and then continues on and the PASSIVE VOICE means God does the saving and the INDICATIVE MOOD means it is a FACT >

And the Greek words OF HIM / AUTOS is in the PERSONAL POSSESSIVE PRONOUN an in the GENITIVE CASE .

So , are those saved in 1 John 5:1 in the BODY OF CHRIST or OUT OF THE BODY of CHRIST ?

So how are placed into the B O C , since it WAS NOT LKNOWN , not taught by JOHN ?

We do not believe on Christ to get born again. We believe on Christ because we have been born again. Faith is not our contribution to the work of grace. Our faith is the fruit of grace already bestowed (Gal. 5:22; Eph. 2:8; Phil. 1:29; Col. 2:12).

False. No scripture says that one is born again before they believe.

Belief comes before salvation.

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. - Romans 10:10 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans10:10&version=NKJV

Catch that?

Belief unto righteousness.
Confession unto salvation.

Faith is not our contribution to the work of grace.

Absolutely no one said it was.

Faith is the evidence of salvation.

Our faith is the fruit of grace already bestowed (Gal. 5:22; Eph. 2:8; Phil. 1:29; Col. 2:12).

Yes, absolutely

False teaching. What B57 said is NOT found in scripture.

2 Tim. 1:9!

Is talking about those who, after believing in response to the gospel (of Jesus Christ's death burial and resurrection) being presented to them, were graced out by God.

It says nothing about salvation before belief, because that is false doctrine.

Romans 10:9-13

King James Version

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
