and
a whole lot of animosity

so obviously the term feminist has some problems

any ideas?

You have stirred your caldron well and all kinds of unpleasantness is brewing there.
Misogynistic cacophony swells from the throats of men who fear women.

:chuckle: Oddly enough, I have never burned one either.

The way that feminism is being defined by the person who initiated this thread is any woman who may wish to work outside the home rather than stay at home and have many children.

As an anti-abortion feminist, I have nothing against women deciding to not have children as long as it is PRIOR to getting pregnant. Abortion should not be an option.

Chrys also dismisses the simple fact that feminists stand up for children and women who are victims of domestic abuse. That issue is just not one of importance in his self-serving vision of life.

Aw I wanted to rep this but I already repped your previous post ha ha

There are two kinds of 'feminists' in this world;

caring and concerned people who believe in respecting others and fairness in treatment,

and those who are into politics and posturing.

well you do have to admire the few that did answer the question

apparently it takes a lot of courage to do so

I can agree with this ... and will add that I do not see women who are pro-abortion as being pro-woman because their cause is selective, personal and hurts children and women.

are you a feminist?

no one here wants to say they are a feminist
but
they don't want to say they are not a feminist

bybee and spitfire are not timid at all
but
both were very reluctant to say whether or not they were a feminist
and
it took repeated requests to get them to say they weren't
so
what is the deal here?
why is this such a difficult label?
is there some kind of intimidation going on?
The idiots on the right have been demonizing the term "feminist" for many decades, so of course people who identify themselves as being "right wing" politically would be reluctant to proclaim their feminist ideals. But for the rest of us, it's not difficult to say that we're feminist, though there are various degrees to which people are "feminists", I'm sure.

The question was once asked; "why aren't all good men, feminists?" And the answer, of course, is that they are. Because appreciating and respecting the female of our species is a significant part of the definition of a good man.

this is not about me
or
what I think a feminist is

it is about why so many are not comfortable with the feminist label
but
more importantly why they don't want to talk about it

are they intimidated?

someone mentioned insecurity
are they insecure in their beliefs?
I don't think so
but
they are not ready to take on the kind of attacks you see in this thread
