I would have thought that any grown man would realise that circumcision wasn't necessary for salvation under the Law of Moses because circumcision was only performed on the male population, not on the females! To claim that this was necessary for salvation, is to miss the entire point of the exercise. If circumcision was necessary for salvation, and women weren't circumcised (as we know they weren't), then your argument results in the peculiar conclusion that the Law of Moes could only save men. Duh.

Good grief, it's incredible that I had to spell this out. I can hardly begin to comprehend the kind of mindset which manages to get "necessary for salvation" out of "circumsise every male." The bottom line is that if it was necessary for salvation, why weren't women circumcised? That's your first problem. Your second problem is that the OT never states that circumsision is necessary for salvation.

Really, drbrumley - I'm very disappointed. You have not even thought about this at all, have you? You've never actually studied the Law of Moses, have you? No, you haven't.

So come on, then - let's see the tortured logic which derives "necessary for salvation" from "you must circumcise every male." Oh, and I want to see at least one clear passage from the OT which unequivocally states that circumcision was necessary for salvation, and explains the female equivalent (whatever you believe this to be.)

Yeah, well I would have thought that you'd seen it coming, but hey... I have to remember that I'm talking to someone who thinks that circumcision was essential for salvation during the OT era.

The Law of Moses {Mosiac Covenant} was temporary and conditional. As pointed out, Isreal was already a covenant people on redemption ground when they entered in this agreement. Paul gives the answer.

It is plain teaching of the New Testament that everyone who did not continue in all things that are written in the book of the law was under a curse, and it is equally plain that not one Isrealite ever continued in all the law demanded. The conclusion is inescapeable that all must have been under the curse of the law. Did this mean that all were lost? No, it could not, for it is equally plain that many of the Old Testament saints were saved. The law has a system of penalties, the extreme one being death. Paul teaches that the law has dominion over a man as long as he is alive, but that physical death frees one from the law.

Bob Hill has already shown that the Isrealites, by virtue of the Abrahamic covenant, the Passover, and the Covenant sacrifices
were on redemption ground and were considered to be God's chosen nation and the people of God before ever the law was imposed upon them. Again, Paul makes it plain that the law, which was given 430 years after the promise to Abraham, cound not disannul the Promise. Therefore it should be clear that salvation under the dispensation of Law was upon the basis of the promise, and that while breaking of the law might bring physical death, as it did in many cases, it could not result in disannuling of the promise.

In considering Old Testament salvation it must be remembered that the Covenants deal with the people on a collective or nationalistic basis and that there is no statement about what one must do in order to be saved.
