Unless...the terrorists are behind that too. :noid:

I have a whirlpool tub and enjoy it immensely. It soothes my poor old muscles.

I can't remember the last time I took a bath.
I may even take the bathtub out now that I know how dangerous it is.

And yet:

BOO! There's a terrorist under your bed.
Both the politicians (mostly republicans) and the media stand to benefit from promoting a fear of terrorism. So they both do it regularly. And over time it has taken it's toll on the American psyche.

Why do they do it?

Well, the media does it because it keeps viewers and listeners interested. And they make their money selling those eyes and ears to advertisers.

The republicans do it because they are the party of the rich, and can't win elections by rich people's votes alone. So they have to somehow create the idea that other people need to vote for them. And fear-mongering has been a long-standing method of doing that for them. They act very 'hawkish' and talk tough all the time so as to make people think they're "fighters". And then they create the impression that we're always just about to be attacked by someone so we'll think we need those "fighters" in power.

In truth they aren't tough, or "fighters" at all. They're just the paid toadies of huge corporate weapons suppliers who make lots and lots of money every time their republican toadies in the government start another war. (Cheney's attack on Iraq, and the billions that went to his pals at Halliburton, for example.)

And people keep buying into all the phony fear-mongering because they're too lazy or confused or exhausted to bother looking up the facts, themselves. It's easier to just swallow the lies and our point fingers, elsewhere.

I've had discussions like this with people who are unreasonably terrified of highly unlikely things.

Their response is "Yeah, but what if you're that one in a million? What then?"

And I ask them if they've finished the meterorite shield over their house, and they look puzzled.

Stupidity is the nutrient of terrorism.

The Republican party is notorious for having draft dodging war hawks and other types who haven't served. Dick Cheney being the premier one of that ilk. Rush Limbaugh also comes to mind.

Yes. They're "hawks" only in that they are the paid toadies for corporations that get rich building military weapons and equipment. They aren't hawkish because they tough. They're hawkish because they're greedy. But it still plays to the uninformed.

Are you from a non-English speaking country? Do you not understand what chicken-hawk means?

FYI, it refers to individuals who constantly talk tough and promote warfare while never having themselves served, nor would they serve.

Neither Biden nor Obama meet that criteria.

One (dying in a bathtub) is accidental, no motive to harm involved. The other is vicious and sadistic, with the motive to harm as many and as often as possible.

It's similar to the reaction of a homeowner whose house is destroyed under a falling tree as compared to a homeowner whose house was burned to the ground by an arsonist.

Good point - one is malicious. Using the same measure more Americans are actually killed in the womb than all other causes combined - and by a margin unprecedented no less - almost a million Americans to be exact.

This is a very good question.

The Camden NJ population in 2014 was 77,344 and there were 33 homicides for a homicide rate of 33/77,344 x 100,000 = 43.

The population of child bearing age women in the US in 2014 was 319,000,000 x 0.21 = 66,990,000 and there were 1,050,000 abortion homicides for a homicide rate of 1,050,000/66,990,000 x 100,000 = 1567 - so yes the homicide rate is 1567/43 36 times greater.

However, using the logic of the calculation of homicide is based on the number of persons that could be subject to a homicide we can apply the same logic to eliminate women who do not become pregnant as there is no life in danger. Using this more logical population the ratio of homicides to pregnant women is 0.21 * 100,000 = 21,000.

Furthermore, in NYC where blacks and minorities are targeted the homicide rate is 50,000.

To keep things in perspective, the homicide rate of WWII was 429. therefore, in the US the homicide rate with the adjusted population is 21,000 = 49 TIMES HIGHER.

In other words, if it's "official" and legally allowed, like war, it doesn't count. But that argument would also cover abortion. You sure you want to make that argument?
