Year End Oscar Buzz (as though we care)

Friday December 31st, 2004. This is show #262.

BEST QUOTE OF THE SHOW:
From reporter James Hirsen:
The Golden Globes...these people have religiophobia. So what they did is they marginalized [The Passion of the Christ] by calling it a foreign language film. ...And I thought...if you take The Passion of the Christ with these very high production values and this great cinematography and you put it with these sort of low budget foreign films, it's going to win. Even though it's an American film - it should not be in that category - it's sure to win. But it wasn't even nominated. So the Golden Globes snubbed it and that means bias.

The Academy Awards has been pretty good at choosing movies with positive moral ideas.

Technically "The Passion" IS a foreign language film...

The financial success of the picture speaks for itself.

The sub titles were in English.

This movie was obviously made for an English speaking audience. I doubt that the 'Aramaic' community has many theaters.

True. Personally I think qualifying the movie as "foreign language" is a stretch--and a cheap shot--but I can see how it could be justified.

It is a modern passion lay and as such really does not have the same dramatic structure of modern stories.

It is more a movie along the lines of art movies.
