I actually despise everything Churchill represented or stood for politically, nor do I admire his war mongering.

Never-the-less when all around everybody was giving way, France the world's most powerful military, the lowlands and even his own cabinet were in favour of coming to peace terms with Germany Churchill stood resolute.

I been listening to some of his speeches. The best speech I had ever heard before that which was not a gospel message was MLK jr "I have a dream" but these are not bad speeches

I've read a lot of alternate history and on AH forums this subject has been discussed exhaustively. Germany had no way of invading England. The Royal Navy was too powerful.

Churchill wanted to destroy Germany for political and economic reasons. If there was never a Hitler and never a Nazi party, Churchill would still have started a war with Germany. By his own admission, Churchill's goal was to destroy Germany. Not to destroy the Nazi's. To destroy Germany. If you go to London, a tour of the underground operations center that Churchill and his staff occupied during the war years is worth a visit.

A few well placed bombs dropped by the Germans could have wiped out the whole command center.

Churchill certainly had his character faults, but he possessed a unique wartime leadership and oratory skill set suited for guiding Britain through her darkest hours!

This is true. British policy was appeasement, this led directly to the war which Churchill warned about.

In order to get elected in 1950 Churchill pledged himself to implement to the last letter the national socialist policies of the then Labour government. It was Churchill's Tory government which implemented the welfare state and the National Health Service.
