Slavery was not about race. It was about man's inhumanity towards man.


I'll state right up front that I don't think Whoopie is racist towards Jews.
But her statement was downright ignorant when she said the holocaust was not about race, it was about man's inhumanity to man.
Then again, she says a lot of ignorant things; so why fuss at her about her ignorant celebrity opinion now?

Slavery before it existed in the United States was not exactly about race, since stronger African tribes had long enslaved weaker ones and sold them to the Europeans as slaves, or kept them as their own slaves. Europeans did not start the African slave industry -- they just bought into a market that already existed.

Also, there were black slave owners at various times in early U.S. history.

So yeah, in that sense it wasn't about race.
