Who should decide?

In response to the...burgeoning...field of presidential candidates from Republican ranks, Fox news has (characteristically) taken it upon themselves to arbitrarily decide which are viable and which are not.
This, much to the chagrin of the New Hampshire GOP.

I am curious as to the opinions of TOL conservatives regarding Fox News' decision.

Who do you think should determine who are and who are not viable candidates.

A) Fox media
B) actual GOP voters

I am absolutely astounded that no one seems to have any qualms at the prospect of a cable news(sic) agency "winnowing" the field of republican candidates prior to even a single vote being cast.

Voters, of course. Those same voters are also cable of determining whether or not to view Fox Media or block them.

Anybody who wants to do so may do so.

that is not true

it will be based on the latest polls

"Winnowing" the field down to 10 candidates, many of whom are in single digit numbers in most polls, was clearly an "arbitrary" decision.
I know of no poll result that suggests GOP support for any such limitation.

The difference in poll results between many of those that are in the upper tier and those who are relegated to the "kiddy table" is less than the accepted margin of error for most any reputable poll.

All candidates should get a place in the debate, but I can understand Fox wanting to limit it for logistical reasons. Even 10 people can be unwieldy for a debate.

Ironically, Carly Fiorina stands as 'a' prime example of the *potential* for abuse in the Fox News debate scheme.

An employee of Fox News

Touted by Fox as "The next GOP superstar" despite lackluster polling results.

Bolstered by Fox News whitewash of Fiorina's tumultuous tenure with HP

Given the "home team advantage" with sufficient force could easily propel Fiorina into the lineup ahead of other candidates equally (or more) qualified to be there.

Fox News debate rules> Fox news "home team" manipulation> adulterated debate format.

I would like to see three groups debate
the governors
the senators
the others
the winners of these three groups would make it to the finals

I think I would be more inclined to support 2 or more debates selected by a random draw.
