ECT What Meaneth This?

Luke 18:31 Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. 18:32 For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on: 18:33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again. 18:34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.

Why their failure?

After all, He had said unto them...

Luke 8:10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.

Why their failure then?

Luke 9:45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying.

Focused on the cares and concerns the reasoning of men focuses on, it did not dawn on them to simply ask Him....

After all, they'd been simple fisherman.

Mark 9:30 And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it. 9:31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day. 9:32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him. 9:33 And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way? 9:34 But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest. 9:35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.

They had failed to understand what He had meant, due to what they tended to focus on.

And when a person does not understand what a person means by their words because he is distracted by his own thoughts or whatever; said meaning is hid from them, as a result.

Something else to consider...

I'm not sure how other Bibles word things, as I study out of a KJV.

But in the KJV, often, what was meant by a word or a phrase, is defined either in the same passage, or one near it, by saying the same thing in a different way.

As a result, what is meant in the above by "hid from them" is actually defined twice in the passage.

Once before that, and once after that.

Luke 18:34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.

In other words, they had been unable to grasp the meaning of His Words.

As when someone says a thing, and because we fail to grasp their intended meaning, it remains hidden to us, until we ask for clarification.

"I'm sorry" we say "I'm not seeing what you are getting at..."

And as we saw in the above; they failed to ask Him.

That is what "and this saying was hid from them" is referring to - neither knew they - the things which were spoken - they did not understand what the heck He was talking about.

A further thought on the KJV and these issues.

"I do you to wit" that it is not "6th Grade English."

Let alone, North American LATER Modern English.

Ar best, it is 7th through Senior High School English - in the sense of when all those rules of grammar are actually both learned, and mastered "by reason of use."

And then there is the issue that the EARLY Modern English of the KJV was not only a much earlier, a MEDIEVAL...BRITTISH English, but one still greatly developing those 500 years ago - and an English; the rules of Grammar and Punctuation of which have changed somewhat, over time.

Solution?

That is what a resource like Bible Hub is for, together with "the whole counsel of God"- Acts 20:27

Nehemiah 8:8 So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.

There you find all the rules of grammar even just one word is following.

Luke 18:34

Besides, Jesus was not talking about that Mystery truth He later revealed to and through the Apostle Paul.

He was talking about "the mysteries of the kingdom...of Israel" - Luke 8:10; John 1:49.

He was in His role of "Jesus...son of David" - Mark 10:47

Even many years later, in 1 Cor. chapters 1 thru 3; Paul laments he had only been able to teach the Corinthians about Christ having died for theirs sins.

How that due to their immaturity, he had not been unable go beyond and into the Mystery - the Body's glory - the Cross had also made possible.

Which is the issue of the Cross' reconciling back unto the Father (via the Body that the Cross had also made possible), those fallen High Places in the Heavenlies presently inhabited by that spiritual wickedness in said High Places, that the Body will one day reign over, and judge God's Angels from.

The disciples had a earthly view of the messiah as did the rest of Israel. They expected an earthly King that would drive out the Romans. So When Jesus told them of his upcoming suffering they closed minds. They did not want to hear that. It happens with people today. Who close their minds to something they do not want to hear. Even if its the truth.

They didn't fail. It was hidden from them. Or the Lord of Glory would not have been executed by the government.

What it is, is that our respective understanding of what 1 Cor. 2 is talking about is different.

While lamenting to the Corinthians their yet carnal, yet babes in Christ failure to grow beyond the understanding that Christ died for our sins, the Apostle Paul relates his having had to basically save speaking much on that aspect of Mystery truth (having to do with our glory - the Body's Glory) for the more mature saint.

His mention of a hidden aspect of the Cross is in relation to said glory.

In the gospels, the Adversary offers the Lord the kingdoms of THIS world.

He is unaware he will soon lose that Higher base of operations (he apparently believes he will still be able to rule from) to the very Individual he is plotting against.

That Higher base is that spiritual wickedness in High Places the Body will one day co-reign with the Lord of Glory over all Creation from, as the fulness of Him that filleth all in all.

Had the Adversary and his dark princes known of this hidden aspect of the Cross, they would not have crucified the Lord of its Glory, 1 Cor. 2; Eph. 6.

The Mystery aspect of God's Two-Fold Purpose in the Cross: Prophecy (Israel from New Jerusalem over the Earth) and Mystery (The Body from those High Places in the Heavenlies over all creation).

The Corinthians, were in no shape to receive much of this info, 1 Cor. 3.

Clearly, Nick, our respective approach to the study of these things is...different.

Apparantly He had agreed that aspect of their understanding about Him, was sound.

John 1:45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

1:49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

1:51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

It was their timing of that aspect, that was off.

Spoiler

Luke 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 1:27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. 1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. 1:29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 1:33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

Luke 1:67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying, 1:68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, 1:69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; 1:70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: 1:71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; 1:72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; 1:73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, 1:74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 1:75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

Luke 19:11 And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. 19:12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. 19:13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. 19:14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. 19:15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.

Luke 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. 17:22 And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it. 17:23 And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them. 17:24 For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day. 17:25 But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.

Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 21:26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. 21:27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Luke 24:19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: 24:20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. 24:21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: 24:26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. 24:32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

Acts 1:1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 1:2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 1:3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? 1:7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

1:9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 1:10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Acts 3:16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. 3:17 And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers. 3:18 But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 3:20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: 3:21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.

But what happened?

Partly, what He had prophesied would happen...

Matthew 10:18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. 10:19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. 10:20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. 10:21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. 10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

Clearly, there is an order to those things.

It is not my study, it is what the Bible clearly states. The meaning was hidden from them. And we know why it was hidden.

1 Corinthians 2

8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Nick - just as gravity followed certain observable laws way before Newton first put them in written form - whether you know it or not, or admit it or not, you are applying a study method of one kind or another.

We all are.

Nehemiah 8:8 So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.

The fact of the matter is that the Scripture follows various laws behind the communicating of intended meaning through said, various rules of Grammar.

The sooner you realize that, the sooner you'll begin to see where you are off, and what you might do towards correcting same.

And the sooner the better, for me, as well.

For I can then learn much more from your findings rather than just from mostly my own time in Scripture - Eph. 4:16.
