A US official told CNBC on Friday that a photo of an Iranian launchpad that President Donald Trump tweeted out in the afternoon came from an intelligence briefing Trump received earlier in the day.

The picture was attached to a tweet in which Trump said the US was not involved in the failure of an Iranian rocket launch on Thursday.

Shortly after Trump made his statement, military and national-security experts began sounding the alarm that the president likely tweeted out classified intelligence.

Trump may have revealed US military secrets by tweeting a photo to taunt Iran
President Donald Trump looks to have shared a photograph of an intelligence briefing that could have exposed US military secrets to the world while taunting Iran over Twitter.

Iran on Thursday suffered a failure of a satellite launch vehicle that blew up on the ground. Immediately after the test, commercial satellites photographed the wreckage and sold the images to civilian analysts.

But on Friday, Trump shared an image that put the commercial satellite photography to shame. Trump's photo looks like it was snapped from a large print out of a very detailed close up of the launch. The notations and presentation of the image suggests it likely comes from US intelligence services, possibly in a briefing for the president.

So Trump's photo revealed either that the US has fantastic satellite photography capabilities, far beyond what Iran, or even US civilians can get their hands on, or that the US had a drone close enough to take pictures.

However, the extreme angle of the picture makes it look like it wasn't taken from space, but rather from an aircraft.

So, Trump just tipped off Iran with some details about how we get those images.

Quick! Impeach him!

I think they've given up on that and are just trying to keep up a constant drumbeat of criticism, no matter how nitpicky, in the desperate hope that somebody, anybody will pay attention to a candidate, any candidate, running in the Democrat primary

Conservatives would not be so "charitable" if it were a Democratic president tweeting classified material - what we are witnessing is "cult-like" behaviour whereby Trump supporters have bestowed their total allegiance onto a leader, irrespective of what he says or does!

To the point that they must see any criticism of Trump tweeting classified information as "nitpicky." The same people would be screaming "treason" if Obama had done something so irresponsible.

Barby once again shows his complete ignorance of the state of knowledge in the world. In effect he's saying nobody, including Iran, knows that the US has spy satellites. That Trump tweeted a photo from a spy satellite is to Barby a major security breach for it confirms what the world has known for decades and that the US government has acknowledged to be true time and time again by showing spy satellite pictures whenever they chose to document the behavior of our enemies.

Oh, my, what a major security breach. The fact that the US military used to show satellite pictures of what was happening in the old Soviet Union didn't alert the Soviets, or the rest of the world, that the US was using satellites to spy. Nope. That was left to Trump to expose for the first time on record.

The stupidity of this thread is beyond all hope of rationality.
