Wrong article on the second link, The Berean. Instead of one on basic income, it's "This Year’s Cubs Might Be Better Than The Incredible ’27 Yankees ."

I had never heard of this concept before. A universal basical income is basically an income given to every person in the country. The government wold send everyone a check on a set schedule. Apparently Switzerland is about to vote on this.

What Would Happen If We Just Gave People Money?

The Swiss Are About To Vote ’No’ On Basic Income

They already voted and voted it down.

Thanks for the article. I will try to read it and comment soon. I think basic income has potential.

I say, give it a few more years to another generation. Most people I know who are my daughter's age and younger think that the world owes them. I think it's only a matter of time before they vote themselves the incomes they think they are owed just by living.

It's a shame they didn't pass it so we could see the results. It's an interesting idea though I don't want my own country to try it due to the very high chance it would go very badly [emoji14]

universal or even supplemental income are 100% better than the broken welfare state we have now, it would blunt a lot of the social engineering that liberals engage in, it would simplify government,it would allow money to enter directly to the free markets instead of the pockets of the leaches living in D.C., and it would be cheaper and less likely to be a victim to fraud. in fact Nixon almost past such a bill in the 60's but failed.

simply kill all other welfare plans and reroute the money to basic income, Sweden tried to add on when it should be used to replace all other welfare programs.

I still have concerns wit the math. There are 330 million citizens in the US. Lets say that 30 million are kids and don't get the income so that leaves us with 300 million people. Again, for the sake of argument, lets say that each person gets $50,000.00. 300,000,000 x 50,000 = 15,000,000,000,000 or 15 trillion dollars. The entire budget for the US this year is right about 4 trillion dollars. That includes all the welfare programs, the military, government salaries, interest on the existing debt, everything the federal government pays for. There is realistic way any government could pay a base salary to its entire population.

lol its called basic income not free ride income. I was thinking in the ball range of 5 to 10 grand, other proposals I read about only reach 13 grand at most with age limits starting at 21. We can also add on to that mandatory household work requirements but in any case it still would be better than the current welfare system we now have.

300,000,000 x 5,000 = 1,500,000,000,000 or 1.5 trillion
300,000,000 x 10,000 = 3,000,000,000,000 or 3 trillion
300,000,000 x 13,000 = 3,900,000,000,000 or 3.9 trillion

So, basically, it still doesn't work.

your numbers need a comparison to understand why basic income is a better option. according to this website: http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/us_welfare_spending_40.html the federal government alone spends 2.39 trillion in social, medicare, Medicaid and other welfare programs. Also I could not find Obamacare spending figures so that 2.39 number is probably a bit higher as well. According to wikipedia.com children account to 26.9% of the U.S. population so 2.2 trillion/ 225 million is about 10 grand per person.
