Time is Absolute

SUMMARY:

Fred Williams is joined by Daniel Hedrick, founder of the GodIsNowHere ministry, to tackle the question of time. Einstein's general theory of relativity claims that gravity affects both space and time, such that the stronger the gravity, the slower that time moves. Or conversely, time speeds up as gravity becomes weaker, hence time passes faster for our heads than our feet! At RSR we believe that time is absolute, not relative, and the gravity affects CLOCKS, not time itself. Fred & Daniel review the evidence for and against general relativity, including the “big elephant in the room”, quantum mechanics, which holds that time is universal and absolute. As an example, you can make two quantum particles interact, then put them at opposite ends of the universe, measure one, and instantaneously the other particle takes on a corresponding quality! Finally, if gravity dilates as a result of volume contraction, time and mass remain the same – a second is always a second (Bandula Dahanayake, Universal Relativity: Absolute Time and Mass, International Journal of Astrophysics and Space Science. Some questions to spark discussion....

Would you agree that the idea that momentum effects clocks rather than time doesn't actually blow up Einstein's theory because, in physics, time is defined as "what a clock reads". In other words, in the mind of most physicists, saying that momentum effects clocks is EXACTLY the same as saying that momentum effects time. Thus, it seems that the actual disagreement has as much to do with the definition of terms as anything else.

Another question...

If a ship went on a round trip to Alpha Centauri and back and the ship was fast enough to make this trip in ten years, then it wouldn't just be the clocks on the wall that would be out of sync with those here on Earth, but every process on the ship, including all the biological processes such that those people who took the trip will have appeared not to have aged hardly at all while ten years had passed on Earth. I'm pretty sure Bob doesn't deny this effect but simply refers to all those effected processes as different kinds of clocks. The question is, whose clocks are right?

Also, when the ship was going toward Alpha Centauri, it would have been traveling along with the light leaving Earth in that direction and so when the occupants of the ship looked back at the Earth, it would look as though the Earth had stopped in its orbit (or nearly so), why then, on the return trip, wouldn't they see all that light that has actually left the Earth during that time and see the Earth proceed through all ten orbits it performed while they were gone? Asked another way, if the Earth orbiting the Sun is a clock, why wouldn't time have accelerated on the return trip?
