Merced is the town where I was born. So, although I feel sorry for the people who have lost their homes, I have to smack myself upside the head at the same time. Why did the city developpers move the river to build the city? If you look up the history of several of the cities out there, they did that a lot. Yet, they ask why they flood every year.

MERCED, Calif.—Two Central Valley levees broke Tuesday, flooding a trailer park and threatening other homes in Merced and inundating farmland south of Sacramento.
The breaks occurred as rain continued to fall across Northern California, with forecasters predicting more through next week.
Floodwaters breached a 30-foot section of levee along a creek in Merced, sending water pouring through a mobile home park, said Michael Miller, a spokesman for the Department of Water Resources. There were no immediate reports of injury or the extent of the damage
