Jesus said, "I said therefore unto you, that you shall die in your sins: for if you believe not that I am HE, you shall die in your sins" John 8:24.
Who is the HE that Jesus is talking about? I think that Jesus means that unless you believe that I am God you will die in your sins. Only God can turn water into wine. Only God can heal the sick, walk on water, feed 5000, forgive sins, raise the dead and do a multitude of other miracles. I don't have a bit of trouble believing that Jesus was God in the flesh. "Unless you believe that I am HE you will die in your sins" It is imperative that you believe that Jesus is God if you want to be saved. Jesus was either God or he was just a man. If he was just a man then he was a sinner like us.
The resurrection of Jesus was God's stamp of approval on the life and the death of Christ. If there had been one sin not atoned for, or if Jesus had sinned against God just one time, God would not have raised Jesus from the dead and we would all still be in our sins.
Paul wrote, "And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching in vain and your faith is also vain" 1 Corinthians 15:14.
The key to understanding and believing the Gospel comes down to what do you believe about Jesus. Do you believe that he is God? Do you believe that he is able to atone for your sins and the sins of the whole world? 1 John 2:2. To NOT believe that he has atoned for the sins of the world is to believe that Jesus is NOT Lord. Remember, Jesus said... "Unless you believe that I am HE you will die in your sins". If you want to be saved it is imperative that you believe that "Jesus is Lord". The Bible teaches that Jesus is Lord, He is..."The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords" Revelation 19:16.
Those who do not believe that Jesus is the savior of the whole world are NOT Christians. They are counterfeits. If Jesus has not defeated sin, death and the devil then Jesus is NOT Lord and his life, death and resurrection are worthless. If Jesus claims to be the savior of the whole world then we should believe him, "I came not to judge the world, but to save the world" John 12:47. He saves the world by providing salvation for world. Now, because of the work of Christ..."Whosoever that shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" Romans 10:13.
