Paul said, "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes; to the Jew first and also to the Greek" Romans 1:16.
What is the Gospel and why is it the power of God unto salvation?
There are many Gospels, but there is only one true Gospel. Calvinist, Catholics and other religions do not believe the Gospel. To not believe and embrace the Gospel that is the "power of God unto salvation" is to be lost and without hope.
In the Old Testament as well as the New Testament those that believe God are justified by faith. God says to the world, "Here is my Son Jesus Christ hear and believe in him" He didn't say here is John Calvin or here is the Catholic church, believe in them.
Jesus Christ is the main center and focus of our faith. We are not called to have faith in a religion or a doctrine or anything else. We are called to have faith in the work and the person of Jesus Christ, plus nothing.
WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?
The Gospel is that work that Jesus Christ has done in our name and on our behalf. It is the righteousness of Christ and His power to atone for our sins and the sins of the whole world that was done for our justification, Romans 3:26.
If you get nothing else out of this article get this, Jesus is humanities justifier. Jesus justifies the ungodly, Romans 4:5. Jesus is the one that reconciles the whole world unto God, 2 Corinthians 5:18, 19. All that Jesus is and all that Jesus did was for us. In Jesus Christ we have been justified, sanctified and redeemed, 1 Corinthians 1:30. Isn't that enough? Why do you need a religion? It is Jesus that makes us perfect and complete in him, Colossians 2:10.
When God accepted Jesus into heaven we were accepted in him. Listen to what the scripture says.
"And has raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Jesus Christ" Ephesians 2:6.
This is where our real life is at. It is in Christ in heaven.
