Empathy

What is it?

Empathy is the ability to perceive and interpret what another person is feeling or maybe even thinking. That is to say, it’s a way of understanding and comprehending what another person is feeling.

It means to put yourself in someone else’s shoes.

Well-developed empathy implies not only understanding what the other person is feeling, but also anticipating their response to such feelings.

Maybe stating it this way makes it sound like empathy is metaphysical or some kind of divine skill.

But the truth is that many of us at one point or another of our lives develop empathy, to a lesser or greater degree.

It would be good to develop and promote it to its maximum potential, because it will make us stronger people and will strengthen our relationships.

Empathy = putting yourself in someone else's shoes.

How would you feel if you had to rely on a stranger to provide your lunch every day?

How do you feel when you are hungry and have to wait to eat?

How would it feel to experience that sort of hunger every day?

What do you think would be the hardest part of not having a home?

Are these things you need to live or things that are simply nice to have?

Watch for opportunities to relieve pain around you.

Challenge stereotypes and myths about people who are poor.

The integrity of our heartwork depends on integrating who we are with what we do. and how we care for each other in the face of crisis.

Kindness means a behavioral response of compassion and actions that are selfless; or a mindset that places compassion for others before one’s own interests. In performing the selfless act, a person may undercut their own selfish interests.

Kindness is a value that is often disregarded. Why is kindness so undervalued? In part, it’s because kind people may be viewed as “enablers” by some, or worse, as “suckers” by the cynical. Thus, the cynic’s view that one is a “sucker,” if one behaves in a kind manner toward others, reflects a belief system that success is only achieved through stepping on or ignoring others. Yet, the cynic’s behavior rarely results in true happiness—that sense of feeling loved, that one’s true destiny and purpose are fulfilled, and that what one is doing matters in the most profound sense.

Having a kind heart makes your life beautiful, peaceful, and fulfilling. When you possess a kind heart, you ought to behave responsibly and appropriately. Your kind heart allows you to pursue righteousness and kindness that in turn brings righteousness, and honor to your life. What is kindness?

Kindness is behaviour marked by acts of generosity, consideration, or concern for others, without having an expectation of praise or reward.

Kindness is a topic in the Bible.

In Book II of "Rhetoric", Aristotle defines kindness as "helpfulness towards someone in need, not in return for anything, nor for the advantage of the helper himself, but for that of the person helped".

Nietzsche considered kindness and love to be the "most curative herbs and agents in human intercourse".

Kindness is considered to be one of the Knightly Virtues.

In Meher Baba's teachings, God is synonymous with kindness:

"God is so kind that it is impossible to imagine His unbounded kindness!"
