That makes sense. So instead of demonizing the physical man like the gnostics did, we are to put to death the deeds of the flesh, allowing the Spirit to bring life to our whole man (spirit, soul, body).
I'm not sure what you mean by demonizing the physical man, but our flesh is sinful, without God, we lust after the things of this world and the things that satisfy our flesh. The holy spirit opens our eyes and shows us what we are doing wrong before God, and those are the things that we are to deny. Once we know it's wrong to do it, and we are pricked in our conscience either to do something or not to do it, we should listen.
To cut it off, is to stop doing the things we know that we are doing wrong before God. We are to die to self, which means to put to death to the lusts of our flesh, so that sin will be put to death in our hearts, by the spirit, and we stop doing the things we did wrong before we knew God, they start to go, and through Jesus Christ our old man dies and we are brought to life through Christ by the spirit.
Paul said"I die daily' he was denying his flesh every day and he was strong in the spirit, and the more we obey Gods will and deny our flesh, the stronger we become in God, and as we decrease, Christ will increase in us, and we will be strong in the spirit, and the stronger we become in the spirit, the more we will overcome sin and we will have a stronger conscience and we will be living to please God.
Jesus came and showed us the way, he didn't live by his will, but by the will of God. He denied himself and it says in the Bible that he came as an example for us to follow. And we are to overcome as he overcame, we are to overcome Satan and this world, to overcome evil with good. And Christ by the spirit will strengthen us and help us to do so, as long as we keep faith and obey the living God. Without Gods grace and without Christ, we have no hope.
Love is the key, Jesus came full of love, mercy and forgiveness, and once we are born of God, our hearts will be like his, and just as Jesus overcame Satan with love, we will also overcome him with the love of Christ in our hearts and by the power of the holy spirit, and we will love others as he did and we will bring the love of Christ to all those we meet. You will know Gods true people by their fruits, and you will see the life of Christ in and through them.
