Should the Rep System be Removed?

What's really the point in its existence? I think it promotes egoism. Perhaps a better system to have would be one similar to that of Facebook - the option to 'like' posts. As far as I know, one can give a 'star rating' to a thread, rating it from 1 to 5 stars. Why not have the same 'star rating' option - or something like that - for singular posts aswell?

How would a 'like' or star system not promote egoism? All that would mean is that a rating doesn't get permanently attached to you. People could still get egos based on how many 'likes' they get or how many stars they get.

And 'no' is the answer to your thread.

To have fun, leave comments, let people know what you think privately without disrupting a thread, to greet people, pray for people, acknowledge people, etc.

I think it promotes egoism.
ok, thats your opinion, others hold different ones.

Perhaps if you like facebook better, you should spend more time there.

 It depends. Are you considering changing your username to Rep System?

No, of course not. Our disagreement on what just happened notwithstanding, I agree with Knight about its use as a side bar way of nudging and greeting and encouraging people without tying up threads with atta-boys and howdy-dos.

again IMO, because of HOW it is used, it really does NOT convey reputation in the sense of being reputable. I really see no reason to show a totality of reps on a profile. Likes stay with the post and in that sense are more relevant. In any event even if I turn off reps (which I haven't figured out how to) the points remain, so it's there regardless.

It's possible we could have a system like that with the next update.

Then this site would suck like facebook sucks. Facebook does not allow rebuke of the wicked. I don't neg rep most posts, but the poster.
