There is a problem with relying on the law to define everything -- it can't cover context.
That requires someone to interpret (and why intent is so important in criminal law). So common sense has to play a part in determining how to apply it. As Dickens said, the law is (dumb). So when a society gets overregulated, these absurdities inevitably become commonplace as common sense is legislated instead of inculcated. And when that same law becomes the only safeguard of civil behavior (instead of morality which can not be legislated properly), it doesn't take long for that to break down. A law is only as good as those who uphold it (or don't).

The moral : this is a symptom of the trashing of the value of religion the Founding Fathers so stressed.

Whoever authorized the call should be fined for calling the police for no reason.

That is something many counties have, for obvious reasons.

From the article -

"The police and schools were also advised that they should report "just about every incident" to the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency, Carey said."

So not only do the police need to be involved in every faucet of school life, but so does DCS (sometimes referred to as CPS).

This goes beyond simple "Nanny State" but into outright Police State.

Teach your kids to "tow the line" or we'll come for them?
