ROMANS 5:1 JUSTIFIED BY FAITH

Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

By faith, by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ and his gospel (Romans 1:9 Romans 2:16 Romans 1:16), we are justified unto eternal life. We have the imputed righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ by faith in his blood (Romans 4:24 Philippians 3:9).

There is nothing we have to do to keep this justification. Being justified means we are. We are justified by the propitiation of Christ and his cross (Romans 3:25 1 Corinthians 1:18 Colossians 1:20).

We are to have the full assurance of salvation (Colossians 2:2).

Error in regards to the assurance of our salvation comes from misunderstanding passages in Paul's epistles such as Philippians 2:12 Romans 11:22 Colossians 1:23 and 1 Timothy 4:16.

Error also occurs by the misapplication of God's dealings with Israel. Israel is promised salvation but does not receive it until the coming of Christ (1 Peter 1:13 Acts 3:19). Israel has to be righteous to obtain salvation in the kingdom (Deuteronomy 6:24-25 Matthew 5:20). Israel was to identify true believers by their fruit (Matthew 7:16). Israel has to endure to the end to be saved to enter the kingdom on earth (Matthew 24:13). If these conditions are misapplied to the church today it will produce loss of assurance.

We are created in Christ unto good works, but our salvation does not depend on them (Ephesians 2:10).

5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

It is by the Lord Jesus Christ that we access by faith this grace. We are to stand (Romans 8:37-39 1 Corinthians 15:1) and rejoice in hope, in full confidance of our expectation of glory (Romans 8:18).

5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

We have no strength to save ourselves anymore than we can keep our salvation.

5:7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

We were sinners when Christ died for us and as such, helpless to save ourselves.

5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

We have now been justified by his blood and have been saved from wrath. How contrary to the truth to say we can, in any way, justify ourselves or keep our salvation when it is only by the blood of Christ that we are saved from wrath.

5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Being reconciled means we are reconciled to God, and can not be undone.

5:11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

We now have the atonement, or have been reconciled to God. There is nothing that can make us think this can be lost except error.

James 2:24 Do you see that by works a man is justified; and not by faith only?

Abraham was justified unto eternal life by believing God. Abraham was justified by works when he obeyed God and was willing to offer up Isaac.

There is more than one meaning to justification; look at Psalm 51:4 where God is declared to be righteous in his judgment. There is justification unto eternal life as when Abraham by faith, believed God (Genesis 15:6). There is justification in being righteous as when Abraham was justified by works (Genesis 22:2 James 2:21).

It should be noted that Abraham was justified by faith in Genesis 15:6, but after Genesis 15:6 covenant was made with Abraham. Covenant was made in Genesis 15:18 wherein God promised the land to his seed. God made covenant in Genesis 17:2 in which God promised to multiply Abraham exceedingly. God made covenant in Genesis 17:4 in which God promised to make Abraham father of many nations. God made in Genesis 17:10 the covenant of circumcision.

In Genesis 17:1 God told Abraham to be perfect (whole, without blemish) before him. In Genesis 17:2 God said he would make the promised covenant if Abraham was perfect before him. Abraham had to keep the covenant (Genesis 17:9). The book of James says faith was made perfect by works (James 2:22), so it can be seen that Abraham was justified by works under the covenants made by God and his faith made perfect.

There's no scriptural reason to invent a distinction. As God says:

James 2:24 Do you see that by works a man is justified; and not by faith only?

If He meant two different things, He would have said so.

Ok so what about Justification by the blood of Christ Rom 5:9 and by the Grace of God Rom 3:24 ?

The works that are spoken of are the purification works.

No way is the scriptures saying we are justified by faith and no longer about our doing right.

Because you say so?

Because in my Bible, it says "works," not "purification works."

Twisting scripture to fit your a priori beliefs makes your position unreliable.

The works of the law ARE THE PURIFICATION WORKS.

Listen, please, by FAITH in Jesus' blood we are now cleaned.

It used to be the WORKS of the law that cleaned people.

People had to be cleaned and obey.

Jesus cleans us now but we still have to obey.

I am pleading with you to try to understand what I am saying the Bible says.

It is by faith in Christ that we are SAVED, NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast.

Christ's blood was payment for sin.

It used to be the WORKS of the law that cleaned people.

Well, no. The purification works were part of the law, which included "do not murder, steal, commit adultery, bear false witness, etc."

James said:

If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well;but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty. For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. - James 2:8-13 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=James2:8-13&version=NKJV

Why, GT, do you show partiality to the law, saying you only have to keep these laws, but not those laws?

If you are guilty of breaking one law, you are guilty of all.

People had to be cleaned and obey.

Jesus cleans us now but we still have to obey.

I am pleading with you to try to understand what I am saying the Bible says.

To me, it just sounds like you're desperate for your position to be affirmed.

I can show you with scripture.

No one is stopping you...

Psalm 51:4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

But this verse could not be saying God needed to be justified unto eternal life like Abraham....so this exemplifies another sense by which we are to understand justified.

No, because God says so.

Christ's blood was payment for sin.
Chris'ts blood does what the purification works did, but more and better.

Well, no. The purification works were part of the law, which included "do not murder, steal, commit adultery, bear false witness, etc."
We are still not to murder and still, etc.
James said:

What do you think the Royal law is? This part is important.

Why, GT, do you show partiality to the law, saying you only have to keep these laws, but not those laws?
Jesus came and gave a new law.
The works of the law though were only the purification works.

If you are guilty of breaking one law, you are guilty of all.
If you are guilty of murdering your neighbor, than you are guilty of not loving him.

To me, it just sounds like you're desperate for your position to be affirmed.

Colossians 2:13 When you were dead in your trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your sinful flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our trespasses, 14having canceled the debt ascribed to us in the decrees that stood against us. He took it away, nailing it to the cross! 15And having disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.16Therefore let no one judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a festival, a New Moon, or a Sabbath.

Did you read that? That is about the purification/ceremonial works being nailed to the cross. We don't have to get circumcised, and adhere to a dietary law, and observe special days, etc.

Ephesians 2:15by abolishing in His flesh the law of commandments and decrees. He did this to create in Himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace

Paul preached against circumcision.

Paul DID NOT PREACH against obeying.

Galatians 5:11 Brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished.

1 Corinthians 1:23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jewsand foolishness to Gentiles,

Galatians 3:1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.

Paul taught that observing days and getting circumcised is worthless when it comes to salvation.

PAUL did NOT SAY DOING RIGHT AND ABSTAINING FROM SIN IS WRONG. NO WAY EVER.

The Jews tried to get the Christian Gentiles to do those things.

Paul says they are foolish and that Jesus was clearly portrayed as crucified.

When Jesus was crucified, all the purification/ceremonial works were nailed to the cross. A stumbling block to Jews who wanted to keep doing those things, and foolishness to the Gentiles, the Gentiles who were talked into observing special days and circumcision.

I prove with scripture the work are the purification works no longer save.

Now no one can prove with scripture that obeying God by abstaining from sin and doing right no longer saves.

Leviticus 18:5
'So you shall keep My statutes and My judgments, by which a man may live if he does them; I am the LORD.

The law was NOT based on faith. That is what the scripture says.

Galatians 3:12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, "The person who does these things will live by them."

In the old law, people were saved without faith because they did the purification/ceremonial laws.

In the new law, people have to have faith that Jesus cleans them.

The old law was not based on faith, it was based on the people following the purification/ceremonial works to make them clean.

In the old law, a man lived by the purification/ceremonial works. In the new law we live by faith that Jesus' blood cleans us.
