Jeff Fortenberry Faces Up to 15 Years in Jail Over Campaign Donations

Nebraska Rep. Jeff Fortenberry faces up to 15 years in jail after he was found guilty of lying to federal investigators with regards to illegal donations to his 2016 re-election campaign.

Prosecutors said Fortenberry, 61, who represents Nebraska's 1st Congressional District, had "lied to and misled authorities" when he was being interviewed about Chagoury's $30,000 donation. The billionaire attempted to get around the rules by giving the money through "straw donors" who attended a Fortenberry campaign fundraiser held in Los Angeles.

AOC faces no jail time for her $1 million violation of campaign finance laws because she did not lie to authorities who did not even interview her about the crime after conducting years of investigation and finding a reasonable cause to file charges against her. That is politics. Crooked politicians from the crooked political establishment face no charges for crimes that republicans go to jail for years for committing.

The Federal Election Commission released filings on Thursday from a two-year investigation surrounding allegations that Ocasio-Cortez's former chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, funneled $1 million through two political action committees, Brand New Congress and Justice Democrats, according to the New York Post. Despite the findings, the FEC voted to dismiss a complaint lodged against Ocasio-Cortez by the National Legal and Policy Center in March 2019.

"The FEC has gone after a whole host of people whose violations are dwarfed by the scale of this scheme," Paul Kamenar, the attorney for the NLPC, said in a statement to the outlet. "It appears to be not prosecutorial discretion, but prosecutorial favoritism."
