Love can not exit without the possibility of hate. And as love must be volitional, so must righteousness.
If Adam and Eve had no opportunity to sin, then their righteousness would have been meaningless.
Further, God had to know that the possibility of sin existed because He is the one who provided the means by which to commit it. If the prohibition of the eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil was what made it possible for Adam to fall, it was also what made it possible for Him to choose not to, and thus enjoy a genuine love relationship with His creator.
Incidentally, we in the Body of Christ, in the Dispensation of the Grace of God, are left with almost the exact same prohibition Adam was given. Do not partake of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (AKA "The Law"). But that's a discussion for another thread.
