The Trump administration says at least 50 staffers will work inside the United States’ new embassy in Jerusalem when it officially opens on Monday.

Senior administration officials previewing its opening told reporters the embassy will begin with a 50-to-60 person operation and grow from there.

The new embassy in Jerusalem is opening Monday to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Israel declaring its independence.

President Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in December by directing the State Department to begin the move of the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

According to Trump officials, roughly 800 guests will attend the opening on Monday.

Initially, the embassy will consist of Ambassador David Friedman and a small team as well as U.S. consular officers already working at the site. The embassy is opening in part of a pre-existing American visa-and-passport facility with a fraction of the total U.S. personnel in Israel.

“We are excited about taking this historic step, and look forward with anticipation to the May opening,” State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in February.

An official told Fox News that the hope is for the U.S. to develop only a “footprint” there in May, with a target of a fuller complement and facility by the end of next year.

Officials said there will a closed watch party on Monday in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, just across from the West Wing at the White House, for White House employees to celebrate the opening

In a rare moment of agreement with President Trump, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Monday praised the president for moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

“In a long overdue move, we have moved our embassy to Jerusalem. Every nation should have the right to choose its capital,” Schumer said in a statement. “I sponsored legislation to do this two decades ago, and I applaud President Trump for doing it.”

True, but it doesn't look like he'll be trolling the White House as "President" for very long.

He should have stayed put in his crooked deals in New York.

Very clever....not. You're still in denial, I see.

The Deep State is in deep swamp territory. Let's see who falls, shall we?

Nothing personal, gd, but in stark contrast to the one side you obviously look at these issues from, my own view has consistently been "let's see which of the two manifestations of life-long corruption falls first - Johnny Come Lately Donald Trump (I still say he was better off living out the remainder of his life-long corrupt life in New York) or the much better at guile than he - in Media and DC.

A STORY FROM TWO MONTHS AFTER THIS^ POST:

More countries following Trump in moving Israel embassy to Jerusalem

President Trump's historic – and controversial – decision to relocate America's Israel embassy to Jerusalem is attracting more followers on the world stage, as several other nations open their own outposts in the holy city or consider doing so.

Slovakia last week became the latest Eastern European country to flirt with the idea of moving its embassy, when lawmakers announced the country would open a cultural center in Jerusalem.

The tentative step speaks to the flickers of international support that have emerged for Trump's decision, despite the United Nations' overwhelming condemnation of the related move to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital

Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales was among the first to outright endorse the decision. Just two days after the U.S. opened its embassy doors in Jerusalem, he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shook hands as the Central American country opened its own embassy in an office complex in West Jerusalem.

Trump’s decision last December to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital – and approve the embassy move from Tel Aviv – reversed a decades-old U.S. policy and stirred anger among many in the Arab world and America's Western allies. Netanyahu, however, praised the U.S. and later praised Guatemala’s decision, saying that the two countries “share friendship, courage and loyalty.”

“It’s not a coincidence that Guatemala is opening its embassy in Jerusalem right among the first,” Netanyahu said in reference to Israel’s founding in 1948, according to the Washington Post. “You were always among the first. You were the second country to recognize Israel.”

Less than a week after Guatemala’s embassy opening, Netanyahu was once again shaking hands with a Latin American leader. This time it was Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes at the inauguration ceremony for the South American nation’s embassy in Jerusalem.

The opening of the Guatemalan and Paraguayan embassies came on the heels of a decision in April by lawmakers in Honduras to move its Israeli embassy to Jerusalem, though the measure is non-binding and currently no official move from Tel Aviv has taken place

Donald Trump would turn his back on the Israelis and conservative Christians in the blink of an eye if he thought it would further his personal agenda!

Just ask the Kurds who have been America's loyal ally for decades what will happen when the US military pulls out of Syria, leaving them to the tender mercies of ISIS, Turkey, the Russians, Iran and the Assad Regime!

That is a pure objective statement based only on your hate and not on one shred of fact. Please post that stuff in the fantasy section. I deal in facts here.

If you'll look at the background of the guy Trump is replacing Mattis with, it just might become obvious that Trump has no real intention of actually leaving that area without U.S. military intervention, and why.

Mattis' replacement sold out to Military Defense Contractors, long ago - follow the money.
