From what life is and what it means to obey God's commands (and live thereby), to if the death penalty exists for new covenant believers (these have received the gospel of Jesus Christ at its proclamation), what can we answer from the Torah itself and the rest of scripture?

Without standards to guide us we can be deceived.
To be led by the Spirit of God is to be led by the Gospel and the fact that you have been justified by faith apart from the law.

Christians are not obligated to obey the commandments. Trying to keep the commandments will make you sin more, Romans 7:7-12.
It is only when you are free from the law that you can obey the law.

Paul refutes you, Romans 3:10 also Romans 3:23.
I didn't say you are righteous and I didn't say you have not sinned. I said it is possible to obey God.
The only one that has obeyed or pleased God is Jesus Christ. All of the rest are sinners.
