Over the years, Christmas had become more of a hassle than fun for me, even though I did love buying presents, baking cookies and spending time with the family. Then in 1995, just a couple of months before Christmas, I became a Christian. At first, the significance didn’t hit me. But one day, as Christmas drew near, I was suddenly overwhelmed with joy. The little nativity scene my mom had put up every year now held a meaning for me that had been absent most of my life. I couldn’t wait for Christmas, because everything seemed new and meaningful again. Santa faded into obscurity while Jesus took center stage.
Yes, Christmas has become over-commercialized. I still hate the crowded stores and the traffic jams and it is still a stressful time of the year. But now I take time to reflect on what is really important. Everything seems brighter and more beautiful!
