I'm a few days late but this is a great post by DFT Dave. His point about spaceless is so well said!
:first:Spaceless means "no space" in the same way that timeless means "no time". How bizarre that some would say that God is spaceless and at the same time is everywhere in the universe and that he has no time yet is present in all of history. How can God be no where at no time and everywhere at all times?
Psalm 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting thou art God. 3 Thou turnest man back to the dust, and sayest, “Turn back, O children of men!” 4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night.
This Psalm says God existed "before" he formed the earth and the universe and that "from" everlasting, time without beginning, and "to" everlasting, time without end, he is God. A thousand years for God is as a day is for us when it is "past". God obviously has a past, when he formed the earth.
II Peter 3:8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slow about his promise as some count slowness, but is forbearing toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up.
Peter references Psalm 90, but in relation to God's future instead of in relation to God's past. The Lord is not slow but is forbearing or long suffering, in that he is taking a long time in fulfilling his promise to return and judge the world. Obviously the day of judgement is in God's future just as it is in ours.
God has a "presence", as spirit, that occupies space differently than matter. Just as time means everything does not happen all at once, space means everything, and everyone, does not occupy the same place, in heaven and on earth.
