These are two separate acts. Jesus abolished the law because it was no longer needed. Not only that, it was contrary to us, no one could keep it or do it, Colossians 2:14. The law was abolished because it was part of the Old Covenant. While Jesus was dying on the cross God tore the veil that covered the "Holy of Holies" from the top to the bottom, Matthew 27:51, that signified the end of the Old Covenant, the law and the Jewish religion. This is why Paul wrote, "The Just Shall Live By Faith" Romans 1:17.and NOT by rules, laws or religion.
For the Christian the law has been abolished, Ephesians 2:15 For the unbeliever they are under it and will be judged by it. To be under the law or to live according to the law is to under a curse, Galatians 3:10. Christians live by faith and the Holy Spirit, not by laws, Romans 8:2.
HOW DO WE ESTABLISH THE LAW?
The word "Establish" in the Greek, Strong's Concordance, word #2476 means to up hold, to abide, to present, stand by. We do not disrespect the law because it has been abolished and we are no longer under it. Paul said,
"Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: we establish the law" Romans 3:31
If you are a Christian, then you are an example of God's law. Before I was saved, I hated to be around Christians because they reminded me of my lost condition. I had a good friend his name was Jerry. Jerry Got saved and was a professing and witnessing Christian. When I saw Jerry coming I took off in the opposite direction. I thought, oh no, Jerry is going to tell me that I need to get saved again. He was right and I knew it.
Paul said, "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ" Galatians 3:24.
What does the law say to us? The law says that you are a lost sinner that needs to be saved by Jesus Christ. Jerry was an example of God's law. When I saw Jerry coming I was convicted of my need for Christ. Christians bring people to Christ by their example.
Jesus said, "You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before men" Matthew 5:13-16.
This is how we establish the law. We establish the law by being in Christ and living by faith and the Holy Spirit.
