[Israel, Iran & ISIS: What’s next? By Joel Rosenberg Washington, D.C.] "With events moving so rapidly in Israel and the Islamic world — and a serious and growing rupture between the Obama administration and the government of Israel — it is vital that we truly understand the times, and the future, from a Biblical perspective. What’s more, we need to understand what God is asking of each of us, and be faithful to the task...] Israel, Iran & ISIS: What’s next? Mt 24:6

Israel, Iran & ISIS: What’s next?

America's support of Israel by conservative Christians is largely based on their understanding that its the fulfilment of prophecy.

The problem is that many preachers have made a "cottage industry" of attempting to link Biblical prophecy to current events.

Based on their less than stellar record, one would have thought that Christians would have learned to be more careful before issuing Israel with a "blank cheque" of support.

I have believed for a long time that Israel is going to take the world by storm [again] by becoming a superstate, expanding from Sinai in the west to the Euphrates in the east....in line with OT prophecy....the world Jews will go home.

You will not find many Israelis who think this way. Maybe a few on the lunatic fringe. There, I've said it!

What's next?

Another group will rise to fight a dictator. We will arm that group. They will become a terrorist organization. Same thing over and over.

Violent attacks provoke revenge fantasies, scapegoating and more violence.

We keep missing the lessons of our own Christian tradition by falling into the trap of reactivity and defensiveness that lead to killing others.

Jesus was nonviolent and told Pilate that his "kingdom was not of this world." If it were, as the verse goes on to explain, his followers would revenge the death of their leader and pick up the sword against Rome.

What we should have done after 9/11 was to pursue terrorist organizations as criminal entities and bring them to justice. That was a valid choice at the time but the fearful hawks in government decided to do their own thing.

We got the lesson but we have ignored it.

Anyone who is killed has relatives who mourn the death of one of their own. And--especially in desert tribal societies like we have in the Middle East--revenge and death is part of the equation.
