Interpreting Scripture in the Light of the Gospel

Calvinist interpret scripture in the light of Calvinism. Catholics interpret scripture in the light of Catholicism. There is nothing in the Bible about these two religions. There is no mention of Calvinism or Catholicism anywhere in the Bible. The word "Gospel" appears in the New Testament about 100 times.

The whole Bible is about the Gospel. The Old Testament is about God bringing forth a nation and a people from whom the savior of the world would come. The law was given to the Jews as a keeper until the arrival of Jesus Christ and then it was abolished by Jesus, Colossians 2:14. Jesus is the end and the fulfillment of the Old Testament Covenant, law and religion.

In the New Testament Jesus victoriously defeats sin, death and the devil and in doing so reconciles the whole world unto God, 2 Corinthians 5:18, 19. Because of the doing and the dying of Jesus God now sees ALL THINGS in his Son Jesus Christ. In Jesus Christ we have been justified, sanctified and redeemed. 1 Corinthians 1:30. This is the Gospel that justifies the ungodly, Romans 4:5 and reconciles the world unto God, 2 Corinthians 5:19. This is the heart and the center of the New Testament message. Everything should be interpreted in the light of this message.

"According as he has chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love" Ephesians 1:4.

Interpretation in the light of the Gospel.

This scripture is not about anyone being predestinated. God chose all of humanity in his Son Jesus Christ before the foundation of the world. It says so right in the scripture. "CHOSEN US IN HIM". The only way that anyone can be holy and without blame before God in love is for God to see you "In Christ". Jesus is God's new Adam and our new humanity. God sees ALL THINGS in his Son Jesus Christ, Colossians 1:20.

"Having predestinated us into the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of hs will" Ephesians 1:5.

Interpretation in the light of the Gospel.

"Predestinated to the adoption of children". When we accept Christ as our savior we become adopted children of God. "To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as Sons" Galatians 4:5. It is God's good pleasure that we become his children. We are God's sons by adoption. There is nothing here that promotes anything other than what it says.

"For whom he did forknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the first-born among many brethern" Romans 8:29.

Interpretation in the light of the Gospel.

God forknew that his Son Jesus Christ was going to be the savior of the world, 1 John 4:14, and that all who would believe upon his Son would be conformed to the image of his Son. Everything that God does, he does corporately. He is no respector of persons, Acts 10:34.

"Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified them he also glorified" Romans 8:30.

Interpretation in the light of the gospel.

As far as God is concerned Jesus has ALREADY reconciled the whole world unto him, 2 Corinthians 5:19. All of humanity was predestinated to be saved by Jesus Christ. He is the savior of the whole world, 1 John 4:14. "Them he also called" The Holy Spirit is in the world calling all to come to Christ, Hebrews 3:15.

Yes, he will be but not everything in the Law and the Prophets has been fulfilled. Jesus still has a lot of work to do.

The work of Christ is a finished work. Before Jesus died he said "It is finished".

The only thing that is left to happen is his return.
