FORNICATION (SEX ACT OUTSIDE OF MARRIAGE

1Thes 4:1-8

1 Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God;
2 for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus.
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;
4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God;
6 that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified.
7 For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.
8 Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.
Gal 1:10
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.
Rom 1:20-23
20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,
23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man-- and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
Heb 12:14-17
14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
15 looking diligently lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;
16 lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright.
17 For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.
1 Cor 6:17-18
17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
1 Cor 6:9-10
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Cor 5:11
11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner-- not even to eat with such a person.
Jude 1:7
7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
Rom 1:25
25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
1 Cor 5:1
1 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles-- that a man has his father's wife!
(NKJ)
1 Cor 5:5
5 deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
Rom 1:26-27
26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.
27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
1Thes 4:3-5
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;
4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God;
1Thes 4:3-8
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;
4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God;

OLD TESTAMENT
Judg 2:17
17 Yet they would not listen to their judges, but they played the harlot with other gods, and bowed down to them. They turned quickly from the way in which their fathers walked, in obeying the commandments of the LORD; they did not do so.

NEW TESTAMENT SEX ACT BETWEEN SAME SEX

1 Cor 6:9-10
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

2 Pet 3:9-13
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
(NKJ)

Luke 9:55
55 But He turned and rebuked them, and said, "You do not know what manner of spirit you are of.

Heb 4:1-11

1 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.
2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: "So I swore in My wrath, they shall not enter My rest," although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: "And God rested on the seventh day from all His works";
5 and again in this place: "They shall not enter My rest."
6 Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience,
7 again He designates a certain day, saying in David, "Today," after such a long time, as it has been said: "Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts."
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.
10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.
11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

It seems that you have no idea what the actual definition of the English word “fornication” really is. Sure, I will give you the benefit of the doubt that the VERY modern definition is “any type of sex outside of marriage.” However…

King Henry VIII had no idea of any such meaning; Queen Mary I had no idea of any such meaning; Queen Elizabeth I had no idea of any such meaning; and even King James I, who commissioned the creation of the King James Version of the chr-stian bible, had no idea of any such meaning.

In terms of historicity that particular definition is very, very recent. So much so that it did not come into existence until very deeply into the Puritan movement. That is to say that there were settlers living in America for quite a long time before that definition came into existence. The Pilgrims of the alleged “first thanksgiving” had no idea of any such meaning of the word.

The English word fornication originates from the exactly identical Latin word fornication, which means: vaulting; arch; vaulting/arching over. However it also has a secondary meaning in that it is a euphemism for prostitution. The Latin word fornication is an inflexion of the Latin word fornix, which means: arch; vault; vaulting arch; monument arch; but it is also a euphemism for brothel; cellar for prostitution; house of ill repute; whorehouse.

What is prostitution? It is the business of selling sex for profit. Is it illegal? For the most part, no it is not. Even right now in 2017, prostitution is perfectly legal throughout the vast majority of the planet earth. There are even locations right here in the United States where prostitution is perfectly legal.

So, why were the words fornix and fornication associated with prostitution? There was a roadway in Rome which was named Via Fornicatio, which translates to “Street of Arches,” that ran parallel to the aqueducts. It was underneath these arches that prostitutes solicited their services to potential customers. Eventually it came to be associated with brothels as well.

The chr-stian text was not written in modern English, nor was it written in Puritan infested Europe or America. According to chr-stian tradition it was written in the First Century CE, in Koine Greek, in areas surrounding the Mediterranean Sea.

The Greek word which is always translated “fornication,” or something similar, is – πορνεία – porneia, which exclusively means “prostitution.” A couple of other related words which are used in the chr-stian texts are – πόρνη – porné, which is a female prostitute; and – πόρνος – pornos, which is a male prostitute. Do any of these words sound remotely familiar? How about another Greek word – πορνογραφία – pornographia, does that sound familiar? It should, because that is where we get the word pornography. What is pornography? It is sexual content of some kind that is available for purchase, in which the buyer does not actively participate.

For 1700 years no human being on the planet earth who ever read the chr-stian bible ever associated the word “fornication” with anything other than prostitution; the selling of sex; sex for sale. The chr-stian text does not forbid or condemn sex outside of marriage, it forbids and condemns the sale of sex.

By adding modern Puritan thinking to what was originally written, which carried absolutely no such meaning, is in fact adding to what was written. Even the chr-stian text itself says do not add to or subtract from what is written (Rev. 22:18, 19). Anyone doing so condemns themselves to the punishments awarded to anyone doing so.

Just food for thought.
