The apostle Paul ties circumcision and baptism together (in the spiritual sense) to the cross & resurrection.
So since both are tied together in that way then can what is said about one also be said about the other as well?
Since scripture says we must understand the earthly in order to understand the spiritual, we should talk about what earthly circumcision and baptism accomplished and did not accomplish first.

So what did circumcision of the flesh actually accomplish?

Did it make one a member of God's covenant people?

The ancient culture of Egyptians practiced circumcision too.
Did that make them God's covenant people?

Jewish women were not circumcised.
Were they not included as God's covenant people?

Did circumcision make Jews faithful to YHWH?
Apparently not, since many of them apostatized.

So what did circumcision of the flesh actually dooooooo for the people that did it??????

If you can't make heads or tails of the OP it is probably best you move on to another thread.

If you can't make heads or tails of the OP it is probably best you move on to another thread.

Please do not marginalize TOL threads or TOL members, the topics and threads that interest some TOL members might not interest you. Just ignore threads and TOL members that do not interest you. If you are presenting yourself as a distraction to the thread or not posting in accordance with the purpose of the thread you will be removed from it. That same holds true for special sections of this site such as the Creation Science area.

The reverse also applies, Tambora. Don't marginalize other TOL members: The topics that interest you might interest other members.

You posted a topic that someone was interested in, in a public forum. Either reply to him or don't, but you cannot, barring him breaking the rules, tell him to go somewhere else just because you think he doesn't meet your standards.

I know the Bible well enough and you know it.
Then why ask for scripture about Paul tying circumcision and baptism to the cross & resurrection if you already know of it????????

The new Tambora has become very dishonest.

When you make claims about the scripture, be honest and quote it. That way we can honestly and accurately discuss it.
There was nothing dishonest about my post.

Hold on a minute.
I did not tell RD to go somewhere else, nor did I insult him.
I merely said that my preference was to discuss with people that already know the scriptures.
But RD did insult me by calling me dishonest, which no where in this thread have I been dishonest.

So what did physical circumcision of the flesh actually do for anyone?
Did it set them apart as God's covenant people?
Did it make people obedient to God?
For some, yes, since God said it was a sign of the people of Israel and commanded they do so.
But for other nations (such as the Egyptians) that circumcised it was not.

Another thing to consider is that not even all the people of Israel chose to do so by their own freewill since it was done to children of 8 days old.

I did not tell RD to go somewhere else,

Please don't lie to me, Tam. The thread is still there for everyone to read it.

You said:

Care to amend your statement?

nor did I insult him.

Marginalizing people IS insulting them.

I merely said that my preference was to discuss with people that already know the scriptures.

Which is basically accusing RD of not knowing the scriptures... Which is very dishonest of you.

But RD did insult me by calling me dishonest, which no where in this thread have I been dishonest.

So far, you've been dishonest twice now. Once with RD, and now with me.

Circumcision was a outward sign of being the chosen people. Also has health benefits. My Mother had me circumcised for health reasons.

Circumcision was a outward sign of being the chosen people.
I have wondered why a sign was specified that only applied to men rather than some sort of sign that would apply to all (male and female).
Is the sign supposed to represent removal of the flesh?
Paul applies the sign of circumcision to the death of Jesus on the cross and baptism His burial.
He applies circumcision as "putting off the body of the flesh" in Colossians 2.

Perhaps since the man is head of the woman, and Christ the head of the church (males and females), it is applied to the one and only man the sign pointed towards.

Genesis 17:11
You are to circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and this will be a sign of the covenant between Me and you.

What covenant did God make with Abraham? It represents that covenant. Was that the Mosaic covenant? No.

Galatians 3:16-18 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as one would in referring to many, but rather as in referring to one, “And to your seed,” that is, Christ. 17What I am saying is this: the Law, which came 430years later, does not invalidate a covenantpreviously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise. 18For if the inheritance is [y]based on law, it is no longer [z]based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise.

Jesus being the fulfillment of the promise.
