Our church supports a ministry here in Denver called Hope House. It is designed to support young single mothers who choose not to have an abortion. Talking with the people who operate this ministry provides a lot of information.
My mom was a teacher in one of the low income districts. She saw older couples shaking up all the time. A child would be born and then one of the people would just leave. She had one case where a woman was shaking up with some guy. She had two kids from a previous relationship. One night she just up and left and left her two kids with this guy.
A marriage where the couple are committed to each other is the be all and end all. A marriage where the couple is willing to aside there own selfish interests and think of their spouse and children first is the solution to many of the problems this society faces. A marriage where the couple works through the trials and tribulations of life the may include affairs, health issues, finances, and home remodeling is the be all and end all.
Note that a marriage like this requires a person who is willing to put the needs of their spouse and family ahead of heir own needs. A good marriage requires sacrifice but those sacrifices come with their own rewards.
