How about the count of the first born. Does that tell us anything?

I'm thinking yes, within perimeters. The number of males in the tribes were listed. Would be impossible to add in correct number of women and children. Peace

Exodus 12:37 The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Sukkoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children.

Taken literally, this amounts to several million people. Not a realistic number- populations were much smaller then they are today.

Yes, it is clear that the Israelites 3,000 years ago had a birth ratio like today's Europeans. Makes perfect sense.

I'm not sure it makes "perfect sense" but perhaps a conservative estimate. Do you have a better suggestion?

You could estimate with anything, but it would still be an estimate, that's the "problem".
