Well, that is interesting. It sounds a little like another half measure, one that appeases a few consciences and accomplishes little else. It does make medical sense though (at least to me), at least from a liability perspective. As well, this is one surgery in which you know someone is going to die, and the least they should do is give the fetus this one chance to make a case for itself as a human life.
