A common theme I've been hearing the past couple days is how the Democrats can move forward.
Prior to the election people were saying that if Clinton wins the Republicans will have to do some serious self-reflection and decide how they want to progress. Now the script is flipped.

Not only did the Democrats lose the White House and Congress and will soon lose the Supreme Court, but they don't have a big group of strong people to move forward with. Maybe Bernie? Warren is still there. But who else?

I heard a statistic today that when Obama took office the Democrats had 35 governors. Now it's 15. Democrats have also lost state legislatures.

chrys, you've often talked about destroying the Democrats. Of course they aren't going to be gone, but this election seems to have taken a step in that direction.

The Republican Party is worse off than the Democratic Party, as they voted in a liberal/Libertarian secular humanist as their President.

Remember that the Republican Party Platform is extremely pro family, pro life and economically conservative,

While Hillary Clinton had many issues, at least she believed in the Platform that her fellow democrats embrace.

actually its going to get much worse for the democrats before it gets better. "DEM PARTY DEVASTATED" is the main headline article on the Huffington Post, below is an excerpt from that article
The Democratic Party Has Exploded
The years in the wilderness will be brutal....

But because Democrats are certain to suffer devastating policy defeats under Trump and a GOP Congress, there will be no legislative victories that either faction can point to as proof its worldview can work. And further electoral losses are on the horizon. The 2018 map is terrible for Democrats ― five of their senators are up for re-election in Republican-dominated states, and four more in swing states. The losing side in the party leadership battle will be pissed off for a long time.

:rip: Democrats

Not to worry Jeffrey, secular humanist/pro LGBTQ/pro abortion/pro socialist Donald Trump will be palatable for the democrats. They worry about the conservative Republican Party Platform, which Donald Trump has absolutely no intention of abiding by,.

Regarding Hillary Clinton: Based on the number of liberals that I've spoken with (and I live in one of the liberal hellholes in this country), she wasn't liberal enough for them. They liked Bernie Sanders because he was an out and out socialist.

I think hat the situation for democrats will look much better in two years. With the white house and congress under republican control there will be an influx of republican policies adn bill, many of which are exceptionally unpopular with the population. One can see this in Obamacare, the republicans have done well in vilifying the name and program but when voters are asked about the individual policies of Obamacare they are very popular.
If the democrats can find a leader and focus on the unpopular republican policies, veterans, social security, civil rights and so on then they will be in a good position to take both houses of congress much like the republicans did in 2010.

Yes, things tend to sway back and forth. The key might be the part I bolded. The sports metaphor I keep hearing is that the Democrats don't have a deep bench of talent to lean on in the years ahead.
