The soul who sins is the one that dies (we are not responsible for Adam's sin). Adam's sin did introduce physical depravity to the human race. It does not pass on moral depravity as a 'thing' hiding in our anatomy/physiology.
Adam was born innocent. Why can't babies be born innocent? The end result is the same. All eventually sin. No one is righteous. Only Jesus lived a sinless life. Everyone's thoughts, attitudes, actions, or motives will eventually fall short of God's standard of holy perfection (there is a time for everyone where they do not know or live for God; one sin would make you a sinner). Living for the flesh and self does not necessitate something causitive back of the will. The will alone can explain why we all sin.
I believe we are sinners because we sin. You believe we sin because we are sinners and have a sin nature (literal Gk. word is 'flesh'; 'sin nature' is a preconceived theology put back into the text). The end result is the same. We all need the Savior because of our sin.
