Condensed version of current events

Forever Canada has had tariffs to protect its home industries like softwood lumber and dairy.

Trump comes along says these are causing trade imbalance we want to see these tariffs taken off or will put tariffs on you.

Today Doug Ford the clownish fat dude who is the current premier of the province of Ontario, has threatened to slap a 25% tariff on electricity that Ontario generates and exports to the United States.

My first thought is that a lot of the hydroelectric that Ontario exports to the US is generated at jointly owned and run hydroelectric plants like the one at Niagara falls, like the one down at Massena. The electricity they generate is fed into the electrical grid that covers both countries. There isn't a separation of the two countries electrical grids as I understand it. They are inextricably linked.

But if they could be discernibly separated, Ontario has no other market for its electricity, except to other provinces. If Trump said - thanks anyways we don't want your electricity right now keep it - they wouldn't have any place to keep it or to sell it.

That's one of the big problems about moving to an electric economy - there isn't a very good way to store surplus electrical energy.

Many people have naively believed that wind and solar are "free energy".
They know almost nothing about the high cost of the conversion, transportation, and storage of that "free energy".

Canada would be the most populous state by a smidge, if population data I've seen is accurate (they have a little bit more than California), so they'd get their two Senators plus a ton of Congressmen in Washington, and Ottawa would remain their seat of government.

We can't really offer full statehood to Greenland, maybe they'd be like Puerto Rico, or maybe like a non-contiguous part of Maine?

But Canada? Maybe two states, maybe more. Meaning more Senators, and more electoral votes.

Maybe Greenland can become part of Canada and we'll take them both now, and sort out the details later.
